True or flase statement...... (POLL)

PCGS Registry sets far outweigh any other type of registry set including NGC sets, NGC/PCGS sets or any other set that allows a combination of 3rd party grading companies.

Simply put, do you hold a MS-65 set in PCGS as the same quality/rating/worth as a MS-65 NGC set?

I'd have to look at the coins. I prefer the NGC registry set because it has better presentation and because they don't ONLY take their own coins. I refuse to limit myself to one service's coins in building a set. Heck, I have several really nice ANACS coins in my type set that I can't enter into my NGC registry set. I enjoy presenting my type set in the NGC registry, but I refuse to have that be a deciding factor in whether or not I buy the coin.

I agree with Monsterman that any set limited to only coin in one company's holder is built from a small subset of available coins. I think you can assemble a superior or inferior set in any holder, and the set is only as good as the collector. It's more complicated than which TPG is most strict. JMO

NO registry set outweighs ANY registry set. Show me a collection of nice coins, and I'll be impressed, regardless of the holder (if any).

I think that there is a "perception" that coins in the PCGS registry are of higher quality but, I agree with the above replies.

Typically I would much prefer the PCGS set. The market shows that a typical PCGS set, at the same grade, sells for more than the NGC set. The word "typical" needs to be considered.

As many have said, "Pcgs coins" are better. They bring more money no matter what they look like.
Only "Pcgs coins" for me. Hahaha

  • it's a shame that there is nothing out there to set up a registry with the top 3 TPG- PCGS/NGC/ANACS- as far as I am concerned- these 3 have the locks on grading- not all are perfect and I do not believe that one holds more value over the others- the market holds it's own perception- the people are are like cattle- make em think it's good to go to the slaughter house and they will.

I would rather buy an Anacs grade 65 than a current PCGS 65 because I can see that the quality of the PCGS has gone down hill. I have the coins to back up my statement - but pics are a pain for me to send - I am one of the old school people- I hate this computer as much as my digi camera.

that is enough of my ranting- I am headed to Phoenix for the holidays with meds in hand. I love driving long distance in under 24 hours!

From one who just started looking at the registry sets, to me the NGC photo service blows away the PCGS pictures, which look so fake.

It's a simple matter of putting the respective sets on a balance bean and weighing them. Whichever weighs more weighs more. My hunch is that registry sets with the same coins will weigh precisely the same.
