Received my new Barber half in the mail today

I just picked up my latest acquisition from the post office today, a really nice XF-45, 1915-P Barber half. The coin was graded by ANACS, (I usually stick with NGC and PCGS certified coins), but I have to say, this is one of the nicest and most original looking of my XF Barber halves. The coin is free of any noticeable hits, has some underlying luster (doesn't show in the scan), and has that dirty, crusty look that just screams "original". The coin is way nicer in hand than what the image shows.........the white spot above the "T" in Trust, is only on the image and not on the coin.

Dan - I have to agree with you - nice coin, very nice for the grade!image

I have had some luck myself with ANACS slabs - mainly the older versions (about 5- 7 years ago) - got a nice upgrade on a crossover to PCGS on a SLQ type I. ( I cracked it before sending) Bought it sight unseen on Teletrade and it's a true beauty. Just wish I had had that kind of luck with all my Teletrade purchases.
I was at the PAN show a coupla weeks ago, and the raw Barbers were all VG-F at best, otherwise, there were a few cert. MS65 blazers - wayyyyy outta my range! I can see how tough an original set of Barber halves in XF-AU is gonna be to put together. But I'm gonna keep pluggin' away! Congrats on the '15!! Chuck

Dan the man, that is one beautiful 1915-P half dollar.

I especially love the toning in the fields. Agreed, it screams “LOOK AT ME, I’M ORIGINAL!”

    Nice score!

That's awesome. And nobody knows what a damn tough coin that one is to find, until they try to find it... Nicely done.

That is one nice 15 Philly. I'm still looking for one. Looks like it should crossover just fine as a 45.

Thanks for the compliments guys........Don, you're right, it's one of the ANACS graded Barber halves, that JJ Teaparty recently listed on their website.

Very nice pick-up Dan. Wow, how hard is it to find the 1915 in XF? I have never owned one. VF30 is the highest I have found. I got three coins from JJTeaparty today also. Mine aren't nearly as scarce as Dan's, but the prices on all three were so good (compared to their PCGS graded coins), that I couldn't pass. The 09-O and 14-S will replace my current examples for a two-fer upgrade. Damn, that doesn't happen very often for me anymore!

The scans are a bit darker I think, than they appear to the naked eye.

    Dan,

Glad you got the 1915 you mentioned last week; it sure is a nice coin ! As Tyler said, its an extremely hard coin to locate in the grade XF45. I bought a couple of 1915-P's from JJ Teaparty myself; one's in an ANACS 25 holder and the other's in a PCGS 55 holder. ( Have not cracked out the ANACS coin for my raw book yet.)

Its just my luck that I was without power for a week ( due to Hurricane Wilma ) when JJ Teaparty had that group of choice Barber halves up for sale. Otherwise...image

    Tyler,

Also some very nice pick up's.
    ---------------------------------------
I also picked up a decent addition for my raw book tonight on Ebay. I'll try and attach a link ... maybe someday my computer mentor (Tyler) can instruct me on how to just add the image and not just the attachment.

    Tyler,

If I didn't pick up the 1915, the 1900-s was definitely on my list. Financially I couldn't swing both, but I loved the look of the 1900-s......I knew it was you who bought it.

    Mike,

Nice pickup on the 1901........ has a real nice look to it.

Drooling! All 4 are great, but I'm liking the 09-o the best...that is my kind of Barber! (I bet you will never find a 1909-O 25c to match it!)

That is a solid coin there. Don't worry about it being in a ANACS holder. I should buy more that look like that.

I missed that download on Teaparty as well. I need to get on their want list. Are they pretty good with letting you know when items come in stock on your want list?

All I did last night was pick up the 1901-P ANACS AU50 and the 1912-S NGC VF30 from Teletrade alst night. The 01-P should slide real nicely over to PCGS as an XF45 for my set. The VF30 will probably cross as a VF25. It's an upgrade but I really liked the toning.

You're so right about finding a 1909-O quarter that looks like these halves. They just don't exist.

Craig, call Gail Watson or Liz Coggan and give them your want list. They were invaluable help to me when assembling my Barber sets. Good luck.

    Happy hunting everyone !
