Seated Liberty 2004 Half Brings $2,850 on Ebay Last Night...4886 mintage

Did any of you see the 2004 Seated Liberty Half go off ebay for $2850 plus freight on ebay. That's serious money for a modern eagle. I guess its because the coin is the rarest US type coin issued to the public since the 1915 PAN-Pac slugs. Wishing I had purchased a roll last spring.

Never heard of a 2004 Seated Liberty half. Are you confusing this with another coin?

I'm assuming this means a platinum proof.

  • Seated Liberty Half!!!???? Did you just make that up? What does moden platinum bullion have to do with a Pan-Pac silver half?

  • The coin shows liberty seated and the coin is struck on a half oz of platinum thus the term half is used. Proof platinum type coin collectors refer to this coin as a half. What I wrote was correct.

    Thanks

It may have been correct to you and a few select platinum collectors but to 99% of the folks on this board it was not. Had you used 2004 Platinum 1/2 oz Eagle then you would have been 100% correct. Your reference would be the same as if I had referred to the sale of a 2004 Walking Liberty.

I don't get the "seated" part. "Liberty Head" would have made more sense.
