  • PL, DMPL, and Cameo are often so hard to tell from a picture... that is something that one really needs to see in hand to judge... your picture is also a little small, and not very crisp... it kind of muddles some areas where hits might be hiding... that being said, I took a guess at 64PL

I'll say 63 PL, and a very attractive one at that!
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

As a hint, intended to help -- The coin looks much better in hand than in my photo.

The photo was taken at the most disadvantageous lighting angle, accentuating the minor contact mark flaws much more than how the coin appears in person.

I had to examine the coin with a 5x loupe to clearly see the contact marks -- they are that light and minor.

I think there are too many marks for anything higher than a 64- the prooflike fields are nice!

I'm thinking 64PL although it could be DMPL.

Did any notice it's also a clashed die? You can see Liberty's nose in the field just to the left of the eagle - that's not a bag mark !

I voted 63 figuring that's what you scarfed up this MS64 coin for.image

No way can I discern PL to DMPL from a photo.

ClayChaser: I examined the coin to check the mark that you were referring to in your post, and it is in fact a contact mark. There do not appear to be any clashed die marks on this specific coin.

It's on my left, or the eagle's right - kind of a triangle shape. Hey, if it's a bag mark, how about you sell it to me? Sure is a nice coin. Text

  • Knowing you stuart- it is most likely a 64pl- but I had to vote it as a 63pl- to many marks in the field to warrant the 64, and it looks like it just missed the dmpl mark.

  • I went with 64PL, but I tend to grade more conservativley(sp?) then others.

    Nice coin Stuart.

  • From the pics on my monitor, I said 63PL. Could be better in hand. Can't imagine it being lower.

Thanks to all who participated in this latest edition of "Guess the Grade". This coin is graded as PCGS MS-64, although she looks very close to PL with moderate cameo contrast between strong Semi-PL fields and satiny frosty devices.

The coin looks much better in hand than in my photo. which was taken at the most non-flattering and disadvantageous lighting angle, accentuating the minor contact mark flaws much more than how the coin appears in person. I had to examine the coin with a 5x loupe to clearly see the contact marks -- they are that light and minor.

This is exactly the type of "look" that I seek to find in MS-64 graded Morgans.
