Weird story

My furnace was on the fritz again so I called my landlord and he sent over a service tech from Fraz-Air. Nice guy, fixed the furnace and all is well.
I guess he saw my coins all over the place and says...Ehhh, you collect COINS!!!??? Yeah man, I do. I collect coins. " Do you know how much copper dimes are worth?" Uhhh...no, sorry I dont. Copper eh?"Yeah, they are fairly new dimes but made of copper". Oh, well, do you want to sell
em?," Uh, I dont know. I dont know what there worth". Well....I'll give ya 50.00 for em because I dont know what there worth either. I gave him my business card and told him to call me. He says hes gonna email pictures. Anyone ever heard of these errors? I later found some website boasting them as Roosevelt dime on Foreign Planchet. 2000.00!!!!???IIIeeee!!!

    I have this piece it's real but I haven't weighed it yet so I don't know what type of error it really is.

    When I have strangers to my home (such as repair people) I always hide any coin publications or any other evidence of my coin collecting activities. You never know who he will talk to and the fewer people that know you collect coin the better. THINK SECURITY!!!

    I agree with perryhalls comments about security. As to the idea of dimes made of copper, he got a group all at one time I would strongly suspect sinctered planchets. (copper dust fused to the surface of the planchets in the annealing furnace.) Modern clad coins with a copper coating are not that uncommon. In fact I would guess that many state quarters that get sold as having a "missing clad layer" but which are still of normal weight and sharply struck are merely coated with a layer of copper dust. I think this because WAY too many of them have been showing up.

    I have to agree with the others about the security part. Letting others know that you are a coin collector... may get you some good buys once in awhile. But may also be inviting a 'business transaction' at your home.... on a weekend or night that you are not there! Keep that stuff hidden from visitors!

    Yes Security is an important issue. I keep everything in safe deposit box at the ole Bank, so just a few things end up here till I drop them off. Besides, my collection isint exactly, "High Dollar".

    Burgulars don't know that. Coins everywhere are $ to them and a gun pointed at your chest is still a gun pointed at you no matter how much the coins are worth.
