How are the new and "Improved" images at Heritage auctions?

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm curious how the newer images compare to the coin in person. For Bust material I'm not sure I get a good read on these.
Anyone have any good, bad experiences? And if you have their images, and yours, that would be even better!

Good detail, but I can't tell if it's PL or DMPL with Morgans. You lose all sense of eye appeal.

    Conclusion - I don't like them.

When viewing Bust material I like to rate the "Crust" factor. With scans I can pretty much do this. These new and improved images
show some color. But the crust all looks the same to me. All crust is not created and rated equal.image

IMO, even Heritage's good images aren't worth their weight in dog waste.

I think that they just crank out so many photos that they don't have the time to put much effort into their scans.

Other auction companies do a really nice job of imaging, like Superior and ANA. They must figure that nice images will draw more consignors. Heritage already has the market share so they must figure "Why should we care? We'll just put out images that blow and suck at the same time."image "There is no sense in wasting time and money putting out images that might give prospective bidders a good idea of what their bidding on."

Thanks stman for giving me a reason to vent.

For cameo material, the new images are worse than the old. In fact, they just plain suck.

I think quite a few people around here do a much better job.

Their crummy cameo photos are the main reason why I do not consign to them.

Out of fairness to heritage, the images are a bit better, but you can still tell they are done with a flat bed scanner, not a high resolution digital camera that some other auction companies such as goldbergs and superior clearly are using. this takes more time but you definitely get better images.

They are worse than the old for seeing cameos and for telling what bagmarks and scuffy areas look like on the coin. They hide everything. I complained about them but I never recieved a reply. Of course I knew they would not get back to me, im just venting about those "new and improved" photos.

There new imaging system is very difficult to interpret. I have found that darkening the new images with ther brightness tool helps a little.
