  • Snagged this off FleaBay a couple days ago. Don't have it in hand yet, and I KNOW it's a gold label...but looks like some potential there for a crackout addition to my album set....

No photos, but I got a Capped Bust Half Dime, 1829 LM-14/V-9 (R-4) to upgrade my collection. This example nets to AU due to an old wipe, although it has retoned nicely. Great upgrade over the VG-8 that have moved to my collection of duplicates.

Just arrived fro Heritage today. Clips on Morgan dollars not dated 1921 are extremely rare, I feel like I stole this coin for well under $100:

  • If the Bowers and Merena website is accurate then I snagged this on last nights Vegas auction. I was high bidder when online closed and it shows me as the winner today at a higher bid, but slightly under my max.

I just got back from my favorite pawn store. Picked up a 1925 Double eagle for 595.00, PCGS MS63.
  • My latest coin purchase was just a 1909 VDB. I bought it for $8.00 and when I got it home (I bought it in Mesa AZ and I live in Roseville CA) I realized that it was blatantly cleaned like crazy.

Seanq, I sent a coin to ANACS that had been whizzed. It came back with a label which said "AU DETAILS NET EF-40" You scored a higher grade with your cleaned coin. Nice. Is there a difference between whizzed and cleaned?

Whizzing is done with a brush or rotary tool.

Cleaning can include overdipping and rubbing with a cloth.

    Polishing is also distinguished.

Have not been very active in the hobby or on the forums recently. However I have over the past few months picked up:

    1. an NGC MS64 1927-P Saint (my first gold coin, it is very nice and the dealer I bought it from thought it could 65 when he sent it in for slabbing);

    2. a high grade CAM 1969 quarter sitting in an original proof set; and

    3. a high grade CAM 1964 half doller (not AH) sitting in an original proof set.

The two proofs sets set me back $15.00 total. A couple of nice cherries.

  • Not much. Last weekend I bought a few darkside items, but I did pick up a nicely toned Proof 1957 dime.

  • I also posted this on the World & Ancients forum. These are so cool I wanted to share here because most people don't get over to the other forum. I don't usually buy ancients, but these look incredible to me, and cost less than a MS65 Morgan USD. In the news department, ANACS is grading ancients. This is not surprising because the ICG chief is bringing to ANACS many ICG ideas.

  • for me this was a relatively big purchase, as I have a small budget..

Coin looks quite nice in person, nice toning.. always wanted one of these scarce halves from the 1880's.. this one had a mintage of 4400, 1100 of them proofs. It's not often that I find these at all, much less at such a low price being it's a lowly PR-58.

  • Not pretty toning but cool to me. Just a black and white looking proof coin that is covered with haze. Funny thing is, underneath that haze is a cam or possibly even a deep cam coin on both the obverse and reverse.

Well, I almost purchased a roll of West Virginia quarters at a flea market while on a weekend in Kentucky but the village idiot dealer behind the table told me, very rudely, I DON'T HAVE ANY - YOU'RE 5 MINUTES LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT. Needless to say, I walked away, pretty mad but got over it.image
