1800 Large Cent - Would PCGS slab it? -- More close up photos added.

I have an 1800 Large Cent here in a third tier holder. I was wondering if you all thought PCGS would slab it. If they did I assume it would get a mid-circulated grade.

I like the coin but there is something messed up at Liberty's head. I'll try to get a close up and reply to this thread if I can get more detail.

I think I've seen worse in their holders

I say it would grade out

You have a shot. I don't know how bad the ring damage is. Can't tell from the picture.

I think it should slab- if there is a reason why not, I don't see it.

I can't tell for sure but it looks like somehing has dented the top of the head, and maybe even a touch of reengraving on the hairlocks in the area. it also looks like there may a scrape of some kind up from the wreath to the rim between the ES of STATES.

OK, I did the "hold the loupe under the camera" trick and got more close up photos. I don't see any green corrosion in the hair -- to see that you will have to wait until I post photos of my new Flyer and 1848 Large Cent.

Chances are they won't grade it. I've sent in similar and better coins and get back "altered surfaces.” Here’s a 1797 half cent that they would not grade. Ive got an 1800 half cent that is nicer than your coin with simlar color that also got a rejection slip. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it handy.

Yet you see copper coin coins in PCGS and NGC holder that have MAJOR problems, and they get a “clean bill of health.”

An early silver or gold coin can have it’s original surfaces completely removed and still get graded. A lot of early gold have really been messed with, and those coins are in holders. If ANYTHING has been done to an early copper coin, UNLESS it’s dated 1793, it goes right into a BB.

In case you haven't noticed I am a very unhappy customer when it comes to how these guys grade early copper.
