Lust for Crust

These coins have the look I love, but can never find. The coins have a look that can't be faked. Many would be surprised how the pros can make a bright coin look old merely by rubbing a soft grit free mud paste onto coins (it also fills in fairly large scratches), just like umpires do to baseballs. These were from a probate sale in western PA, stored in a safe deposit box for over a century, then in a collection for many years and then to a Downey sale, where I grossly overpaid (at the time) to keep them together for a while longer. Note in the last image the line inside the upper loop of 2. Downey thought it was the remnants of the base of an under-digit. I think it is merely a die scratch. This was lapped off fairly early and very few of this DM show the feature. This isn't the coin from MBS 30, rather it is from MBS 24, lot 70, wherein the usually observant Downey missed this feature. And speaking of baseball, go Sox!
