I called there customer service, it is indeed for a VF20 Morgan Dollar...Coin values has it at $20. I informed them there site must be wrong, wasted a half hour of their time - on speake rphone, no cost to me, Iwas doing other stuff. The lady said she will inform the buyers I said Iwill watc this, if it's not adjusted I am going to send it the DA for that state. Enough is enough, we're worried about gas stations gouging [people for an extra 10-30 cents a gallon , this is Fraud and a crime... The picture doesn't even match the coin. I just hope some old retiree wanting a precious gift for someone does not fall for this one.. I know the old Mantra buyer beware, but come on, businesses are suppose to be ethical.. By the way are they ANA memebers by any chance.. I'm with Gil, it's not just a matter of not buying it...it's a matter of simple business ethics.

Well, they can post crap like that up there, hey were are the gung ho lawyers out there....sick em ...

I guess this thread does talk about a coin situation but I didn't think many members on this forum would waste their time looking at Coin Vault.image

Yet we can have forum members held in high regard selling common date 63-64 Morgan toners for up to 5K
and I don't see threads about them for some reason. Sorry, I forgot.... they are well, "forum members"
and they are nice, and entitled to ask whatever they want. Sorry, just thinking out loud again.

this is the email I just sent him

    Dear Mr. Chambers,
I have been watching your show for sometime learning and gaining confidence before I dive in to make a large purchase. I am afraid that after tonights experience I will not be purchasing any of your products and will reccomend to all I know that they do the same. I will relay to you what happened tonight. A friend pointed out this coin and said why is this 1878 morgan. Item # 70016234 3,299.00 ?? I said huh ? I went to the web site and sure as I'm breathing.it lists this 1878 morgan. the description is a vf 20. The slab says 1878s ms63 that lists for $450.00 and a vf coin lists for $25.00.I called the customer service line and asked for a clarification.I spoke to a Customer Service Rep. named Marcus. this is the respone I received. " They said they they have to have a markup". Now Mr. Chambers I am all for a markup and after speaking to some more educated folks in the hobby than myself and getting some updated publications like "Coin Values" "Coinage" and the old red book. I am becoming aware that the general markup is more often than not double the list price. I then asked for a manager. Marcus put me on hold and said the manager refuses to take the call and I have the choice to buy the coin or not. He also said that if you dont know about coins thats great for them. I asked for the hosts email robert chambers. refused to give it to me.I t was after insisting profusely for his managers name that would not take the call and your email address. He finally relented. His managers name is "Jeff" I had to pry his last name out of Marcus. said it was Greer.
Like I said a markup is fine but to attempt to sell a vf20 coin that curerently lists at $25.00 or to give you the benifit a ms63 1878s listed on the slab lists at $450.00 that more than a markup thats robbery. if this is the genreral practice you should be embarrassed and ashamed.
    Thank you for listening.

Both price and condition are clearly typos. Some folks should do some homework and realize that the price is way overboard. Anyone who has that much money to spend on something like this should know better.

    No problem here.

I agree that the consumer should have a clue and its their own fault if they go in blind. But the seller does have responsibility if not some integrity or if all else fails a moral guidance that would not allow for this to happen and then to not care when it does. It's just plain wrong...

You keep going to the web site so I wonder if any of the oxygen you are breathing is reaching your brain. Please stop wasting our time with this drivel. If you don't think SAH has been hashed out here enough, you might want to do a search. Two Shop at Home posts in one day. Don't you just maybe think it's a bit too much.image How about finding a good numismatic book, do some reading and come back and teach us what your read.

Many forum members will bend over backward to report a fraudulent eBay auction, yet these types of Coin Vault shenanigans don't bother them at all. I would assume it's because they don't view it as fraud.
I would maintain that it is fraud, that it is a violation of ANA guidelines, and terrible for the hobby.
I'm going to write a quick letter to the editor of Numismatic News. It's pretty disgusting stuff.
Gil, you didn't have to type in all caps to stir me to action.

I'm sure it's a mistake on the web page.

The price $3299.95 should be for the 1800 bust dollar, listed separately, graded NGC VF-20, priced exactly the same. The Morgan dollar isn't even the right condition.

It seems a simple mistake, shame customer support was not able to resolve or acknowledge the error.

Get over it... Just looks like a clerical error. Coin doesnt match description...

People who buy coins from TV are lazy and deserve to pay their markup for their effort of spoonfeeding. If it weren't for the ignorant and lazy it would be much tougher to make a good living....

Just in case this comment is directed to me, let me clarify my position.

First, this is the second post of the day from gil concerning coins on the SATH website. Yeah, we know, SATH prices suck. And what they are doing is not good for the hobby that I love. But I'm afraid two posts on the US Coin Forum in the same day by the same poster is innappropriate. He could have added these concerns to his previous post. gil has made many coin buying mistakes in the past and has been given the same advice over and over again, yet instead of learning about coins through books, good coin websites, and the expert advice of those on the forums he seems to be spending a lot of time on the SATH website. Looks like he is more interested in teaching us what we already know than teaching himself about coins. Hey gil, here's some websites for you to surf instead of SATH.
    ANR
    Coinsite.com
    CoinGrading.com
    Heritage Auction Archives
    Southern Gold Society

Second: this coin listing is a typo. Clearly there is a problem with the listing as the title does not match the image and neither match the price, even in the SATH pricing world. Again, SATH prices suck, but this is just an error.

Third: As digusting as their pricing structure may be, yelling fraud is simply wrong. SATH sells coins graded by the two top tier TPGs only. And they are quite conservative with their grading ranges in their descriptions when it comes to raw coins. As such, I have no issue with the coins they sell. When a customer at SATH receive their coins, they will be exactly as described. Again, their prices suck but that is not a crime. There are at times some close calls when thier carnival barkers get going on the TV. But they are pretty well trained not to cross the line into deception.

Now for the Ebay comparison: I feel more bandwidth is wasted on this forum over ebay threads than any other. 70% of them have little to no place on this forum in my opinion. But unlike SATH, ebay is rampant with Fraud. On ebay you have sellers listing coins they do not own, listing coins as NT that are AT, listing problem coins as problem free, counterfiets, etc. These activities are fraud. This is entirely different than what SATH does. Heck, SATH has a 30 day return policy and sends you the return labels with the order. The difference is that with ebay, collectors are not getting what is advertised, and that is much more harmful to the hobby I love than what is going on at SATH.

Now before many of you take that previous sentence out of context let me reiterate that IMO SATH is not good for our hobby and newcomers need to be exposed to the fact. But screaming over a typo is not the way to do it.

My point is that yes , I have made some mistakes but because of inexperience, knowlege etc. I am improving as I learn more. My ENTIRE ISSUE. Is the shop at home or whomever hawks these items on t.v. should have the integrity and educate their customer service personnel to address such issues. I am all for a markup as previously stated but that goes beyond markup that is just plain taking advantage of people. and it wrong no matter how its sliced it is plain wrong. The word swindle comes to mind.

As another member pointed out it may have been for a 1800 bust coin. Too bad Customer service didn't apologize and correct the issue, they had to be ignorant and insult the "customer" by telling them that if people don't know about coins its all the better for them. Too bad they don't realize the "ignorant uneducated customer" is what keeps there doors open. I apologize if anyone feels that 2 posts on the same subject ended up here today. if you look at the timeline I did not know about this one until the evening the 1st was posted this morning.

and lastly This was not directed at anyone nor should it be taken as personal or any other kind of attack, even though there were some "digs" hurled at me in the last post, I was not being personal;. Besides that's kind of hard to do if you do not know the person isn't it ?.

I'm done deabting this....I started out trying to inform and share and its turning into an ugly thing... I can see the popcorn thing already.
