MANY of the sets are overwhelming. I asked Andy about it at the ANA. He said there's nothing wrong with a long term outlook and does it really matter if you complete it?? image

Fortunately these coins are so rare that it spreads out the payments automatically. image

I must admit that when I first saw this thread that I was excited to see who Al was and look over his wonderful collection of patterns! I was actually surprised that Al was really aluminum.

Thanks for the kind words folks, never expected anyone to notice. It is funny to scroll down the list of 600 possible patterns for this set and try to find my 3 patterns. My biggest problem is keeping this information there as I recall a PCGS rule that you need to have at least 1% of the set completed or it will be eventually be deleted.

I have a lot more patterns graded by NGC. BY the way, I still have the NGC tags in the same grade for the PCGS $5 $10 $20 proof patterns. They are one and the same.

I was going to take better pics of these patterns today but had endless car repair appointments instead.

Now, I approach this set strictly as a type set and never intend to complete this full set. I am not nuts. I have too many other fun and a lot expensive projects on tap!

I approach my collection as really three sets.

    (1) a dime pattern type set of different designs to dress up my dime type set.

    (2) a poor mans gold 19th century proof set which is obviously cheaper in aluminum bronze, and copper, etc. than gold itself.

    (3) Anything else that strictly strikes my fancy and doesn't fit the other two sets.

Well, gotta admit the titles not real catchy. Looking forward to seeing the coins. image

Andy: Your quote is a good one. So true.

About a $20 Liberty die trial set? If I had unlimited monies, I would be tempted to complete such a set.
