Crappy Lemont IL show report and new things I picked up at the show today.

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
Well today was our Lemont, IL show (25 tables, same crappy dealers with the same crappy coins). On of the guys hands me a stack of proof sets and tells me "I just got these in" and that "I should have at it", and that "If you find any you like your gonna have to pay bid for them". So I start looking, (now there is only about 15 sets in the box) the first 6 were 1958s. Usually I don't even look at these, they are big money and always suck! Get to the last one and HOLY CRAP, a cameo 1958 Frankie!, I look at the next set (it was a 1957 set) and almost soil myself! That's when I flipped it over and felt my heart hit the floor (only a CAM). I got 2 AH Kennedys and a nice 66 SMS set. Basicly everything else at the show was the same old, same old.

I hit a show yesterday and the only thing I did was waste gas. The shows around here blow.

Dang, I wouldn't complain about scores like these. I've gone to a lot more trouble to
    get a lot less.

I've had a good week too. Found a nice gem '81-P type "d" mint set. It's only about
the fifth gem I've ever seen in any of the type "d"s.

You must have hit it early. I hit the show around 12:20pm and spent 2 hours there just trying to find if there was anything that was worthwhile.
I ended up buying a 2006 redbook and that was it.

There were no coins that jumped out and new sets/coins are about unheard of....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Sorry to hear the bad news, Marty. I had set up at Lemont off and on til this spring. And anyways, its summer, and the shows usually are a bit slow, especially the monthly ones. But all is not lost, my friend. You found some interesting and neat items, and you should be happy for that.

Now, there is a coin show in Terre Haute, Indiana on Sunday, August 21, 2005. It is sponsored by the local coin club and it is a good show to go to. Maybe you should, at least, try it. Go to my website - the location and time are posted.

Maybe. You should try shows like this one (one Sunday (or Saturday), once a year) - never know, you could find that modern coin that will set your world on fire! The Indiana dealers are pretty friendly except for a couple of soreheads who thought I was "cutting them at the knees!" I would like to meet IndianaBryon and GregTheGreat - let them know about this show if they don't already know.
