Quite frankly I would have a lot less animosity towards eBay and PreyPal if I had some assurance that I could break even or make a profit on my item, other than by using a high first bid or an excessive fee reserve, neither of which bidders seem to like. I just hate the idea of puttung stuff up in a crapshoot and if it loses money add insult to injury by paying PayPal fees to get your money, since not everything listed on eBay is easy sell material.
Also it would be nice if they would let you do partial refunds where if a buyer returns an item he also encloses a check for postage if postage was not refundable per the listing terms then you simply refund his bid amount. Saves you the hassle of mailing him a check.
Maybe eBay should split into two versions; a PayPal only version and an other forms of paypent version. That way you could list your item where you feel most comfortable.
You buy a $1000 coin on eBay from a seller you don't particularly care for and you have $1100 in your checking account. Do you pay by echeck which only cost the seller $5 in fees or do you put on your as$hole face and pay by CC so it costs him about $30?

Just how does an e-check work? I never understood it, nor have I ever had anyone try to pay me with one. Someone tell me in simple "non-PayPal" language.....
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

The feature is already there. Go to the PayPal payment, click the refund link, and enter the amount of your partial refund. The fees on the money that's refunded are returned to you. Then go to eBay and fill out a non-paying bidder form, but click that you mutually agreed not to complete the transaction (don't click "buyer never paid"). The buyer does not get a strike, and you get your FVF back.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

What is difficult to understand about this? ALWAYS PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD. The first time you send an echeck for an item, then get burned, don't come back here linking paypalsucks.com. You have your own self to blame.

I agree with Russ that this is just one more step taken to eliminate the personal accounts.
They want their fees on ALL transactions that go through them.
This is an Ebay/Paypal situation, for now. Again, I feel they are working towards eliminating the personal accounts altogether.
Bajjerfan, I get charged the same fees on ANY payment type via Paypal. E-check, CC, transfer, doesn't matter.
I think it was DDink that mentioned that if you don't like these policy changes, don't use Paypal. It's really that simple. Their company, their service, and their rules. For the occasional users, if it doesn't sit well with you, don't use them. It may be cold and cruel, but it's done.
I never understood completely the personal account, to begin with. I mean the free end of it, always thinking that Paypal must do it to utilize any balances that were left in those accounts. The only other reason I thought they used them was to make it easy for people to start using the service, at minimal costs, and once they got used to it, or they began to expand their selling situation, they would upgrade to a premium type account.
Correct me if I am wrong, but ebay selling is closer to the wholesale price for most items. People do make money selling on ebay but the margin is not great - certainly not as good as the profit margin at a retail store. And ebay encourages you to take a risk by the way they structure their listing fees.
So what the sellers are complaining about, with all the rule changes, is that it is going to be harder to make a decent profit on ebay, given all the risks associated with the ebay environment.
<< <i>For those upset about the change, tell us why you believe PayPal should offer their service to you for free? >>
I think this pretty much sums it up. PayPal is not a bank, they are a broker, and they have to make money. They make money by charging transaction fees on the transactions they broker.
<< <i>Just how does an e-check work? I never understood it, nor have I ever had anyone try to pay me with one. Someone tell me in simple "non-PayPal" language..... >>
When you make a payment using PayPal you have a choice of 3 different sources from which to draw funds. From an existing PayPal balance; from the checking account linked to your PayPal account or from the credit card linked to your account. Funds drawn from your linked checking account are referred to as echecks or electronic checks. They normally take about 3 days to process and clear.
<< <i><< For those upset about the change, tell us why you believe PayPal should offer their service to you for free? >> >>
I don't expect them to offer it for free but 3% on an electronic cash transaction is too much IMO esp on high ticket items. I can understand a higher fee on CC stuff since the CC company gets a cut. But as I said before; right now I don't have much use for eBay.
That has to be a tough business selling coins on EBAY, i would rather spend a little money with Google and stay near the top of the search engines and find people with money then haggle with a bunch of people who wanna buy something for nothing (kinda like a flea market) i would cut my wrists before i tried making a living selling coins on EBAY and dealing with PayScum (no offense to anyone here, i know some of you do it, and i feel for you) i already got burned once from Blue Moon Coins in vancouver Wash on EBAY, and PayPal almost burned me for 17k, that was enough to teach me to stay away and pony up and find other avenues of selling coins. Goodluck ugh
<< <i>For those upset about the change, tell us why you believe PayPal should offer their service to you for free? >>
Paypal shouldn't be free, but they shouldn't charge the same rate for a CC transaction as they do for a bank transfer or existing balance. Their costs are VERY different and so should our's.
<< <i>What is difficult to understand about this? ALWAYS PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD. The first time you send an echeck for an item, then get burned, don't come back here linking paypalsucks.com. You have your own self to blame. >>
I never said I didn't understand and I can see how it would be the preferred way to buy on eBay.

Walmart made a stab at CC companies some time back over this very issue. I'm not sure but I'm thinking they negotiated a better deal.
Do you think it would be possible to have an e-bay auction and say something like "Free shipping if Paypal isn't used". That way instead of paying a hefty fee to Paypal you can use what the fee would have costed to pay for the shipping. This way you pass on the savings to the customer encouraging more and higher bids. Just a thought...
Unfortunately the saving of $4 or $5 does not make up for the convenience of using PayPal that lots of people seem to like. Many folks like convenience and that has a price; sometimes a high price. To me personally, convenience is rarely worth the cost. But to each their own.

There has got to be an alternative for paypal. We had nothing but problems with them and as of now I have zero negs on ebay.
Anybody listening out there in the universe?
I didn't think so.

I'm not so sure- I see a lot of coins go for more on eBay than I've seen them priced for on tables at shows.
