Buy / Sell / Trade Forum Suggestions for the Drive By Posters

Have you ever noticed there are a select few who use the PCGS B/S/T forum for nothing more than free advertising space for their Ebay auctions and coins they have for sale, and never contribute anything else or post to any of the other forums?
On another non-coin related forum I belong to, they have a rule that you cannot post in the "for sale or trade forum" until you have 1000 posts in the general forum. Do you think PCGS should adopt the same rules to prevent the "drive by posters" just looking for free classified ads here?

At the rate some people post it would take 'em several years to accumulate 1,000 posts.
I for one see nothing wrong with an otherwise-silent lurker to post items for sale, as long as they abide by the rules and etiquette of the BST.

also, have a set of rules clearly posted at the top of the page and on the page when you are typing up your ad. If you don't follow the rules, 3 strikes and you're out.
that board has pretty much turned into a coinworld in print.

It has nothing to do with being legit or otherwise, it has to do with people who have no interest in the PCGS forums other than exploiting it for their free advertisements.
I hold the BST sellers who are regular posters on the US Coin Forum and respected board members in very high regard, and for better or worse, I would be very much inclined to do a deal with them if there were a coin of interest.
I hold the BST sellers who are not regular US Coin Forum posters in neutral (at best) regard and would no sooner deal with them than a random seller in a Coin World classified ad. Some are clearly carpetbaggers of questionable or nefarious intent, and I will call them on it if the opportunity presents itself.
Now, if I see someone contributing on these forums, then I see a BST from them, I am much more inclined to open it and give it serious thought.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Granted, there are some scammers but a few like to have their little chit-chat sessions on there and bump everybody else's threads to the bottom.
Add in bumping they buddies threads all the time as well. Yeah, they like to jump on "fresh meat" for saying it's illegal to charge 3% extra for Paypal....
while many of the regulars do the same thing (and they buddies) and they say nothing. Hmmm... sorry just like always, as I've learned
on here it's not who ya know but who ya... never mind.
I have fewer posts than that, but I've sold a good many things on BST, and I can't remember any of them yet having resulted in less than a happy buyer. I've made successful purchases there from people who aren't constant posters over here, too. I get your idea, though. I might be in favor of something like member for X amount of time, or something.
If I could snap my fingers and make the BST forum the way I'd like it, I'd say you can't post anything there unless it's actually for sale there. I don't care one bit who's selling what on ebay, and I don't link my own auctions from there.
I take RYK's point of view, I am strongly inclined to buy from those who contribute to the forum, and are wary of those selling stuff who I do not "recognize" from the US Coin forum.

If PCGS had an "ignore user" function, it would be easier to navigate that board and exclude the repeat sellers to whom you are making reference. You might miss out on some entertainment, though.
If It's an ID that I don't recognize I would'nt buy from them anyway.

How about they just have a separate EBAY Forum, where everyone can TTT their ebay threads all day long and not interfere with the coin posts on the BST forum !!
Dragon- Did you ever think that just maybe the regulars might use an alt id for eBay & the BST forum to avoid having their auctions screwed with by jerks due to personality conflicts?

Also consider schedule limitations in the case of full time dealers. Quite a few board members are full timers and do quite a few shows, and may not have as much time to hang out on the boards as others. Guys like Mark Feld and Julian may not be able to maintain a certain post count, post per day, or percentage of posts, but I wouldn't want that to preclude them from sharing their inventory on the BST board.

Seriously, I don't visit, and I buy coins in half-dozen other venues. PCGS could easily improve its useability by breaking the lump down into categories, discouraging any reference to Ebay listings even if the coin were for sale elsewhere, limiting the number of listings per user to 5 at any given time, and not allowing additional responses to the initial post. Want to add one and you already have 5 up? Take one down. Lastly, one coin per listing, with silly things like date/mm/denomination/holder/grade in the title. Lots of work for PCGS, but it would make the forum a must for me when I shop.
