Could it be a one of those rare, Chinese-made, U.S. ultra rarities???

I was going to criticize his punctuation until I noticed he'd snuck a comma in there.

If you want to have some fun, bid the $3500. You will be safe, as this is under the reserve.

I was going to buy it, till I realized his finger was touching the obverse.

Noticed that.....It may be artifact of the camera angle, but either his fingers REALLY BIG, or that's one small silver dollar.

I think the coin pedigrees back to the Shanghai collection of Jur King Mai Chaen...

Can the seller remove or lower his reserve? If so you may be required to pay the $3500 or take a neg.

  • I've been needing an 1804 for a while, but I promised myself I'd wait for at least an MS62.

    Guess I'll pass.

Not even a good fake. Very crude. Has anyone sent this guy a message letting him know that its fake? As if he doesn't already know.

Nope, eBay won't let a seller do this. You can change it around all you want before a bid is in, but once someone's bid you have to either let it ride out or cancel the whole auction.

A $3500 bid should be safe here, but no way would I bid $3501 image.

I emailed the seller, asking (innocently enough) that if the coin was so valuable, that they should get it certified. The response:

We stuck this coin up before we new what was the real worth of the coin.
my brother looked it up and then he told me I needed to change the priceing and to put a huge reserve on it.
If the coin does'nt sell after a few try's I am going to take it to Houston and find a certifier, at one of the coin dealers over there. I Work all week and have to put so many hours just to make what I make, and it hard for me to take any time off, I have three children and a new house note and two vehicles to pay for. One day is one day that I realy need. We all stuggle sometimes I'm not complaining.
So just thats easier said than done. A man just asked me a questoin, that you might want to know.
"He asked if the side were fluted plain are did they have writing on them", I told him that they were plain and smooth like a nickle.
I have had a man that is a coin collector come buy the office and he looked it over and he said !!!wow!!! He told me if he had the money he would buy it. Some times you have things that are put up that are worth some thing and some times they are worth nothing.
It just takes the right person that wants it bad enough to help you when you need it. Hey, thank you for your question and have a nice day. e-mail me back if you know someone in Houston that is honest and will give me a fare price for this coin.

I have little doubt that the coin is fake, but the seller seems sincere enough -- not your typical Shanghai Scammer.
  • Somebody should encourage him to drop the auction.

I'm in Houston. My offer is $10 for the novelty value.

I think that's more than fair.

It only takes two seconds to that the coin is a fake.

There is nothing right about it, unless he's found a new 1804 dollar die pair. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Yes. Life is such a stuggle for this seller. But at least he answers questoins for his bidders. You can add this nice gem to your collectoin too. image

This reminds me. I'd better get back to looking through my old coins like this guy did so I too can run across an 1804 silver dollar! Talk about luck!

Happen to note that under the pic of the coin is a label "EF-40?'
Can you say scam scam scam?

To fairly assess the value, I think we would need to know if the Airtite holder is included.

  • stev32kstev32k Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭
I was going to bid on the coin until I noticed the shipping charge. It's $150 for next day air - that seems a little excessive to me - especially for a $10 coin.

The next day air fee of $150 is so that the seller can persanolly deliver the cion to you....and then go through your hous and old change drawor free of charge to locate other valubul cions. He certanly has the "nack for finedeeng old cions and neet colectubles."

  • This seller has a few other "goodies" for sale. You might want to check them out, too. Some real nice stuff, Morgan, Peace, Walker....................rare finds!

I don't think he is "innocent". My guess is that he knows what he is doing.

His grandpa may have picked this coin up 40 years ago while serving in Viet Nam. These were quite common and the local merchants would sell them to the US solders for a few dollars. Let's give this guy the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's honest but very, very stupid.

Isn't it illegal to sell counterfeit coins, and even if they're proven to be counterfeit after the fact isn't the seller liable?
    When in doubt, don't.

This is one of those counterfeits made in Fai Keng, China.
    They're called Fai Keng fakes.

This guy is scum! I'll post this again. He knows exactly what he's doing!

    Look at his feedback! image

Some of the feedback he has received was on the same day or the day after the auction ended.image

He sells louis Vuittonimage and the buyer in GERMANY gets item and leaves feedback 3 days later.

Look at his feedback given for those Louis Vuitton sales----just a rube in the middle of TX selling french designer items? I never knew TX had acquired so much style from joe 6pack

This guy is a real prize.

FAKE ITEM, VEWY VEWY BAD PERSON, HORRIBLE EBAYOR...... of course--JMHO
    Have a nice day

I'm surprised that the 1893 Morgan is only listed at a starting price of $45.00. You would think that a coin that goes for $125+ in a vf-20 would be listed a little higher.
  • stev32kstev32k Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭
It looks like ebray took some action. It's no longer a valid item.
