I might respond with "get back to me when you're serious about buying".

  • You are the seller...........you can accept payment how ever you choose.

PayPal is a huge part of ebay, and many buyers look for it exclusively.

I wouldn't respond to the email at all.

  • It's a convenience thing for most people. No reply, but that's the way alot of people feel.

    I don't do paypal, either.
I ain't having anyone get my coin, then get their money back too.
You buy from me, send a check or money order.

No reply needed. Accepting or not is your option. Bidding or not is his. (The e-mail you rec'd wasn't needed either, but why perpetuate a wrong?)

  • You have to ask yourself, "If I did except PayPal, would he have bid?"

I don't use PayPal for buying or selling.

If you won't do business with me because of that, then you can buy or sell your coins to some else.

I right good checks, and I expect to receive the same. I've never written a bad check in my life and never will.

  • You don't have to reply.

Personally I want to sell coins. I don't have an axe to grind. So I would reply something like the following:

Thank you for your interest in one of my auctions. I am considering signing up with PayPal. I hope you will look at my auctions again in the future.

    That about sums it up.

In the boy-girl theory of sales, practiced by a lot of sellers....you want what you can't have(just like the pretty girl in high school)--so sellers say you can't have it and see if you charge full steam ahead--knowing that they have just told you --'you can't have it' or 'get the he$$ away from my table'. That is one technique some sellers use to qualify potential customers. It is strictly an amateur one and usually serves to clear the table at a bourse. One particulaly large seller who frequents this board has refined it so well that people complain vehemently on this forum. People complain that they are offended by this seller or that they have been run off by this seller. Not so in 99% of the cases. It is just how the seller does business, it's not personal.

With the 'I can't buy it unless you do X' theory of buying....there is always something or some condition that the buyer imposes on the seller. A real buyer looks for a way to buy, not a way not to buy. JMHO

David, Wow, does he really think you will "get serious about selling" and "get back to" him? image

He's just one of many(including myself at times) who gripes when he can't get his exact way. image

I wouldn't dwell on it, he's probably just having a hard time with something at home.image

One thing to keep in mind with online sales; some people use the internet because thay may be housebound due to injury or remote location. To them paypal is the only way to buy instead of getting a MO or waiting the extra two weeks for their ck to clear your bank. Of course its your option not to accept paypal due to the high fees; but many survey posts here have shown that you are excluding potential buyers. JMHO.

If you're selling you have every right to state the payment types you want to accept, PERIOD.

    I'd respond with a smart-ass comment.

I once had a lot of coins I didn't know anything about that got to a few hundred dollars, and I was emailed saying that the coins aren't worth more than a few dollars. I had some fun, given that there were multiple bidders who obviously didn't agree.

I've been known to send emails to sellers, but that's usually when they grossly overgrade, sell AT crap, or quote unrealistic prices image Some replies can be fun image

    Maybe something like this.

Thanks for your input. I guess your right.
I'm not really serious about selling.
I seem to stay quite busy just enjoying the hobby.
    Hope you do as well.

Russ's response is too obviously condesending, while Weiss's reply has just the right mix of "I don't care" mixed in along with "You're an idiot". image

Ah, but Relayer, you're looking at it from the point of view of somebody that has more than two brain cells to rub together. It's not so obvious to the average eBay bidiot. image
