How would you grade this Morgan? (Grade revealed in first post.)

I always thought that a 66 should be a super coin and a DMPL should have nice clear fields, IMHO this is a 65PL.

I recall when I first got here I graded a coin 59...............heared a lotta snickering going on after I made that
statement.

Nice coin for sure.

However, what's going on to the left of the eagle's wing? I hope that's not a fingerprint?
No.

I think you have a good question. According to the experts, PL/DMPL is dependent upon the quality of the reflectivity of the surfaces and not the CAM/DCAM appearance. Additionally, I agree that the fields look hazy.

I'd tilt and rotate the coin in the light, and I'd look closely at the coin.
I might use a 7x loupe to examine the highpoints of the design,
and I'd try to evaluate it's overall appearance and grade it
versus the various grades of Morgan dollar that I've seen before

I like it, too -- just not as a 66DMPL. I like it as a 65PL and arguably as a 66PL. I don't see DMPL on this one.
IMO, this is an example of buying the holder instead of the coin, which could result in overpaying by a factor of 5.

Those surfaces look like a mid 66 to me. However, I wonder if the coin hazed, turing a DMPL into a PL!

How can you tell mirror depth from a photo? Its hard enough to tell whether a particular coin with good reflectivity is PL or DMPL when you've got the coin in hand. You just can't do it from that photo.

True, especially given that the image looks like a scan. The scan can make the coin look hazy when it really is not. For that kind of dough, I would need a return privilege to confirm that the coin is indeed DMPL.
