I wouldnt call it an achievement, more like a lucky break. Scored my one and only really nice coin on Ebay, paid $50 with shipping for an 1880-o PCGS MS64 (did everything I could to make seller aware) ....as I said, not much of an achievement, but the only good coin story I have.
Putting together a very presentable collection of early U.S. type coins from 1793 to 1807 on a middle class income.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
As a coin collector, I'm quite proud of my ongoing work on a US type set
As a numismatist, my best moment was probably the 2003-4 discovery of the first new early half dollar variety documented since 1996 (at which time, most experts thought, "that's all of 'em)

as per the above i like conders contributions the best
if we had more like him this hobby would be many many thousands of fold better and many more collectors and many less losses for many collectors but fewer millionaires as the grading services have made more millionaries in coins than any other way in numismatics\
as most all greatest numismatic contributions on here and mostly ALL are ego $$$$ and greed/selfish self absorbed accomplishments that benefit mostly the contributor .....just the way it is always has been always will be but there is a greater good that does keep the hobby together but these greater good people have no assets lol
Sheeze, Michael, I don't know if I want to follow that post now....
I found the early die state coins that finally convinced John Wexler to list the second known fully separated RPM on 1956-D cents, RPM-018. He wrote them up in Coin World. I also had a few of my cherrypicks pictured in Wexler's Authoritative Guide to Lincoln Cents. Lately I've been serving on the board of CONECA.
Someday I hope to come out with a census and rarity guide for clipped Lincoln cents, and with another collector potentially a book on clips on all series. What's the the point in knowing a bunch of neat stuff if you're not trying or willing to share it with other collectors?

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Having my wife hold my three 1795 half dollar Small Head varieties (O.126, 127, and 128) and trying to explain to her the significance of the accomplishment
Only two big achievements so far: in 2003 I completed my first Buffalo nickel short set with an average grade of MS64.55 (including an AU58 '37-D 3 leg) and just recently I picked up my 50th Flying Eagle cent to complete a roll.

Mine would probably be when I filled the last of 5 PCGS blue boxes with 100 different date/mintmark Morgan Dollars; in effect finishing a complete set of the little fellers. I do know that I made a lot of sellers happy in the process. When I first embarked on the journey I never expected I would ever have a 93-S; as it turned out I had in that time more of those (5) than any other coin in the set.
In the spring of 2003 I suggested to David Hall and Paul Montgomery (then President of Bowers and Merena), "There are plans to exhibit all four of the 1913 Liberty Head nickels at the ANA convention this summer in Baltimore. Why don't you offer a million dollars reward to find the missing fifth coin...."

Carl---Great achievement! Helping create a future generation of collectors is a noble accomplishment.

depending on how much lawn work I could get week to week.
I gave the dealer payments on it. At age 15. Those were the days.
