Has the concept of "Universal Forum Time" been discussed??

LakesammmanLakesammman Posts: 17,460 ✭✭✭✭✭
Screwed up on a private auction tonight since the seller ended the auction at 8PM referring to local rather than west coast forum time (3 hour difference).

Wouldn't it be useful to define such matters discussed on PCGS forums in reference to "Universal Forum Time" (UFT)?? image

All those in favor say "Aye".

Sounds good as long as UFT = EDT

Is UFT a new swear word? image

  • I'm all for it as long as it corresponds with central time.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
  • I completely agree. It is a pain when an Ebay sale uses one clock, Heritage Dallas time, etc. It's a pain to keep calculating everytime.

I was thinking of the time that follows every bloody post as being UFT. Why add confusion?

If anything it should be "PCGS Standard Time" or PST, which coincidentally is the same time zone where PCGS is located...

On the Forum, we usually go by twilight zone time.

Actually, in my profile, I set my time as GMT - 6, so I see post times local to me, not west coast pcgs homebase time; I see your original post as Wednesday June 22, 2005 8:08 PM, and I'm pretty sure that's CDT. I make a motion for people to post time and time zone when necessary as in auction end times. Believe it or not, there are some people who actually can translate from one US time zone into another, most everyone has to ask, but stating the time zone along with the time should be done.
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.

    Need more $$$ for coins?
  • To confirm, I did just test by updating my profile to GMT-5, now I see your original post timestamp as Wednesday June 22, 2005 9:08 PM. So you definitely don't want to reference the timestamp on posts for auction closing times.

  • I like your idea about a standardized time. I get confused as well.

This may not be exactly related to your discussion but will mention it anyway.

I went to Yahoo auctions for the first time this week looking around a little.

They have a "coundown ticker" that you can open up in a seperate window while waiting to snipe. Saves that constant refreshing the screen. Thought that was kind of cool and useful idea.
