This may be another facetious question posed by Russ, just like yesterday's question about whether a 1961 Frankie would CAM.
However, my response is who cares, it is a 1981 clad half. It is very nice, but I bet one could find multiple examples of this coin with similar frost in 1981 OGP proof sets.
It looks awesome from here. I would call it DCAM without hesitation. Well, I might hesitate while I'm thinking if this is a trick quetion or Russ got shafted or something. However that coin sure looks like it has the frost and mirror like fields needed so I voted DCAM.
<< <i>However, my response is who cares, it is a 1981 clad half. >>
Actually, it's a Type 2 clad half that's worth a lot more than I paid for it.
Those who were not swayed by the possibility that this was a "sneaky" poll, (not that I would do one of those ), and stuck with DCAM are right. It, and it's twin, did grade PR69DCAM. It's, as Don said, a "dead nuts" deep cameo.
I picked both up at a show for $10 each because the dealer, who knew they were Type 2's, graded them PR65.
Even though the lettering is kind of weak here and there (& you never know w/ Russ & photoshop... ), compared to other DCAMS, it should be (a DCAM).
At first I thought Russ had photoshoped the fields, so black! PR69 DCAM Nice!
PS You suck.
Edit: I'm curious what that looks like in hand.

No, it should have received DCAM designation.

I voted yes and I think this is a setup for the next coin he shows. If this 81-S is DCAM then how come (next coin Russ shows) isn't.

It's too bad, because the dealers are marking up the prices as a result saying the coins are undergraded.

Whatcha talkin about LucyBop ... looks like you have more than your fair share of a full head of hair ...
Maybe all those Frankies should be changed over to LucyBops ... at least the would look better ... and have a swingin' beat to them ...

no, ... the lettering is not frosted enough.
<< <i>The fact that you're asking tells me that the answer is "no" and you think You Got Stiffed by PCGS! >>
+1?
Overall the coin is dripping with frost with jet-black mirrors and should DCAM.

<< <i>I recall HRH saying that lettering frost weakness does not necessarily DQ a coin for DCAM. >>
That's correct. It is a fallacy that minor frost breaks preclude the DCAM designation.

I say it did DCAM (which means it probably didn't as I'm the biggest contra-indicator in history!).
<< <i>That coin is 100% DCAM --- or should be. >>
I agree but I get the feeling this thread wouldn't exist if it got the DCAM.

<< <i>Is that a "birth mark" on it also? >>
Nah, break in the frost. It's common for the 1981 to have these little breaks in the sideburn area and on the shield.

Well, to be fair, it's an image not an actual coin in-hand. To further be fair, it is me that posted the thread.
