FYI,
A die clash is when the minting press die pair slams together without a planchet between them. The result is leftover marks or impressions where the design from one or both of the dies transfers details partially to the other.
When minting Morgan Dollars, the force applied according to the VAM Encyclopedia, was approximately 150 tons of pressure on a strike.
The two clear acrylic discs of the tool have the Morgan Dollar obverse and reverse images laser engraved into them. The discs are then overlayed each other to show the details of each other and where die clash marks may occur on them.
The outer denticle ring of the tool is actually a gauge to measure die rotations measuring how far the clashed dies rotated when showing different clashed details.
At the eBay site re-linked here eBay Tool Link , you can see how the tool can be used when you toggle back and forth between the first two images on the top.
The line of the Eagle's right wing through Liberty's neck area is a good reference on some coins as how far the clashed dies rotated.
To show the clashed "G" at the neckline, you'll notice the top of the gauge has moved four denticles measured between the index marks. Each denticle = 2.5 degrees and in that case 10 degress of rotation.
At that amount of rotation, you'll also notice the "O" of the mintmark is exposed over the top of Liberty's cap. So the tool helps you figure what could be where on a clashed coin as well.
The tool helps visualize other VAM attributable clashed details that may be hard to see or visualize on the actual coin without some kind of reference device. The tool could also help figure out a stray clash mark here or there as well. I think this tool will be helpful in these resepcts.
You can see many of the recent attributed clashed die VAMs at the Ashmore website linked below and a new attribution guide is under development and should be published in the near future. The link here mentions this attribution guide and also shows a clashed die variety coin for sale (not mine). Clashed "G" Morgan eBay Link
The tool might help you find some yet undiscovered VAMs or help you "cherrypick" some coins that haven't been scarfed up yet. Ashmore Website - VAM updates

Terry. I'm pleased to report that the tool arrived safely in my mailbox today. WoW! This is awesome. I thought it was going to be a small flimsy piece of thin plastic but this tool is big & solid. The denticle lines on the outside edges line up perfectly too.
Of course, having this baby in my greasy little paws caused me to run right out to my local coin shop and hunt for a clashed die. Lo & behold, we find a 1904-O VAM 28A, Clashed Obverse "G", due to a 10° die rotation.
