Paypal???????????
If you all remember the post I put up about a month ago in reference to paypal. Some members of the board
talked me into signing up for it.You all made some good points,so I did.Guess what, the very first time I let a
client use paypal,I got stung. Not by the client but by paypal. The client put the money in the account(paypal
sent me a e-mail saying it was there).Paypal aslo stated it would take 7 to 10 days to receive the money.Guess
what, the auction ended 4-8-05.I sent the client 5 or 6 e-mails and the same for paypal.Never heard from the client and never heard from paypal.
Never again. This is the very first time I ever got nailed

Has anybody ever gotten anything from PayPal stating that time frame for receipt of funds? I haven't. It's always 3 to 4 business days both for eChecks to hit the account and for transfers to checking.

Same here. "3 to 4 business days."
I think K6AZ is right about a spoof email.
If you are careless, you will get screwed eventually.

<< <i>This eCheck Payment will remain "Uncleared" until the funds have cleared from the sender's account, which usually takes 4 business days. If you are shipping an item, please do not ship your item until the funds have cleared into your PayPal account. You will be notified by email when the funds have cleared into your PayPal balance. >>
About six days later I got another note stating the funds had cleared. I checked PayPal to verify and shipped the item.

<< <i>It's sounding to me like he got a spoof payment email. Always log into your PayPal account to confirm that you have indeed been paid. >>
Excellent advice indeed. I ship ONLY after accessing my paypal account and verifying funds. Once in my account, I can use the paypal/usps shipping system for the labels & discounted shipping fees. Also note that E-checks sometimes take up to a week to clear. NEVER ship until they do.
I have found that 49 out of 50 e-mails from "paypal" are fraudulent, spoofs. (excluding payment notifications) In fact I've received three of them today.
Whenever I receive an e-mail from paypal, I simply forward it to spoof@paypal.com. In the very unlikely chance the e-mail was legit, paypal will notify you.
Item sold for $49...#4 Winning bidder used PAYPAL..#5 PAYPAL send E-Mail telling me the winner is using
PAYPAL for payment and the MONEY is in the ACCOUNT.#6.Your options are: There were atleast 3/4 options,I choose Mail it to me.#7Paypal said 7 to 10days...#8 Auction ended April 8 2005.# 9 Sent 4or5 e-mails to the buyer and to PayPal.Never heard from either one.NOW RUSS,THAT"S NOT VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND OR IS IT FOR YOU?????

But, I've finally deciphered the actual problem.
silverandvinyl was paid by the winning bidder, then requested a check from paypal, via snailmail, and it never showed up.
The problem is not with your winning bidder. The problem is between you & paypal (incorrect address, stolen mail, USPS lost the check, etc.) I would suggest that you call, not e-mail, paypal customer service and try to explain that you have not yet received your check.
Harrassing your winning bidder will not accomplish anything.
Wondering if you have checked your account balance.
Is it possible the funds are still in the account and the check was never sent?
What exactly does your "my account" page state for the status of your payment from the buyer, and from Paypal.
And no, your situation is not EASY to understand, as presented.

You failed to mention that you selected the snail mail option for funds disbursement. Since only a cave dwelling Luddite would use that option when direct transfer is faster, safer, and more convenient that lack of disclosure further compounded the incomprehensible nature of your ramblings.

Russ, do you think he will understand that?
Also a direct transfer doesn't cost anything.

If you were to begin using proper English grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, you would be far easier to understand. As it is, all I see is incomprehensible ramblings.

Did you use your credit card through PayPal? If so, file a chargeback - immediately.

<< <i>I just got hammered on Paypal. I won 6 coins and paid via Paypal for over $3,000.00. I waited and waited for shipment. They never came. I disputed through Paypal and they investigated. They just came back and said that I won the dispute but that all of the funds were gone from the seller's account. So I'm out of luck. What good is Paypal if the seller can just empty their account? I don't know what the answer is, but don't think Payapl is so safe.
Gary >>
Gary, how did you pay? If you used instant transfer from your bank account then your only recourse is to file a mail fraud complaint with the post office.
If you paid with a credit card, dispute the charge with the CC company. I always use a credit card when I'm dealing with an unknown seller.

Not sure I understand why the CC company shud be on the hook in this case. Maybe they shud be required to "investigate" the recipient of the funds "BEFORE" they release payment. If one makes a careless purchase and gets screwed out of their $$ I don't see why the CC company shud be expected to make good on the funds and incur the expense of recovery. Just my humble opinion.
Call PayPal at 1-888-221-1161
BTW - If you file a dispute with your credit card company over a PayPal transaction, PayPal will close your account.

I don't think you quite understand how CC chargebacks work. The CC company isn't the one who eats the loss. They take the money from PayPal. PayPal eats the loss and should since they refuse to do the screening that should be done.

<< <i>Gotchya. In alla my 57 plus years I have never had to resort to dispute resolution thru a CC company. >>
I have several times. About six years ago someone got hold of our CC number and bought a bunch of AT&T calling cards at over $300. The CC company reversed the charges and AT&T were the ones who took the loss, since they sent the cards to where else, Florida. I had another case last year when I canceled my ISDN account when high speed cable became available, and they kept charging the account for two months.

The last time someone paid me with an echeck, PayPal sent me an email stating that the funds will be cleared in June 1. I checked my Paypal account and it said the same thing. On June 1, there was money just sitting there waiting for me in my Paypal account!
<< <i>I did not say the money went into my account. What I said was "paypal sent me a e-mail saying the buyer has the money in his account".Then paypal listed the options for payment".I said send me a check to my home.Gave them all the required information. >>
What you said was
<< <i>The client put the money in the account(paypal
sent me a e-mail saying it was there). >>
Paypal would not send you an e-mail until the payment was sent to YOUR account not HIS account. If you lok at your account it should show the payment from the buyer to your account, whether or not it has cleared (if it came by echeck), and it should show that the money has been rmoved from your account and a check has been mailed to you. What does it actually say when you look at your account?
