I'm a strictly amateur collector, putting together a birth-year set for four generations from 1906 to 2003. Trying to buy decent coins for the early years is fun. My nicest coin so far, and by far, is the 1915 Buffalo nickel from airplanenut's auction.
It's too bad that I don't need the standing liberty quarter since I think it's the prettiest US coin ever minted. Maybe when I finish the set I'll buy one to celebrate.
I've learned a lot reading the posts here, and probably the most important thing I've learned is how much more there is to learn.
