Do Die Polish hairlines hurt you when it comes time for grading?

Just curious, I have never sent in a coin to be certified, but am about to. Any advise on what to avoid, or do, in this process would be greatly appreciated.

    wasn't the 3 legged buffalo a result of over-polishing? perhaps I am wrong.

    If you are looking for utra high grades, like something beyond PR or MS 66, yes. Eye appeal is VERY BIG on those coins.

    As for cameo Proofs personally I don't like a lot of the "resurfaced Proofs" from the '50s. Yes the "hairlines" are raised but they don't make the coin look very pretty.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Die polish in small amounts has no bearing on the coin's grade. The more excessive the polishing, though, the greater the possibility of it limiting the overall grade. I once had a 1921s morgan with super duper extreme die polishing. Technical 64 or 65 but graded 63.

    i have made several ms67fb mercs and roosie with heavy die polish lines.

    Like Lucy I've seen lots of Mercs with high grades even though they have polished dies. Some Roosies too. The no FG JFK looks over polished to me so isn't very attractive IMO.
