Morgan just won on Ebay. DId I get taken? Opinions?

I just won this coin on Ebay. Common date/mint but stunning in appearance. So stunning I am skeptical if this is the actual coin. I would appreciate opinions on the coin. I will post pictures when I receive the coin.

This coin is so perfect, it leads me to believe that I may have been spoofed. It looks like a proof. Didn't cost much so if I got taken, I will mark it down to education.

Thanks

Rick

The pictures are showing up fine. The actual auction would be more helpful.

    Linky

In the immortal works of Bill Shakespeare, “There is something rotten in Denmark.”

This seller has a lot negatives, and the coin looks like a Proof that just sold for $43.00. You have not committed much so if you get hosed it’s not the end of the world, but I would be surprised you get a legit coin that really looks like this.

Don't expect to receive the coin that is pictured! I would have been afraid with just his feedback. This is what the auction states:

Meaning you think this is not the actual coin? As I said, I have significant doubt myself. I will let the forum know.

"Shine" is not a good word when comes to describing numismatic items. This guy does not know coins given his copy and the fact that he sells other items. Be prepared for a shock. image

The coin pictured is a proof. I have seen the picture on one of the major auction sites, but don't have the time to look it up. Somebody on the boards will remember where it was and link it for us. Don't send payment, as you won't receive the pictured coin.

    Bill

As I said in the initial message, I am ready to be spoofed on this one. The fact a person does not sell coins only is not always bad; I have bought some beautiful Morgans from folks who sell a variety of items. It is a risk for sure; I am limiting my risk to the amount I paid so I am willing to do the deal. $43 and shipping is not a monster risk.

Congratulations!!! PCGS price guide lists this coin in PL67 as being worth $10,000. Yours is at least MS68PL. Yeah, I would doubt the seller. You are correct, however, that at that price you can't lose. Please updae this thread when you have coin in hand. My gut feeling is that your seller is a lying sleezeball, but that you did allright at that price.

The coin pictured is not the coin you will receive as the seller hacked that picture off of the Coin Facts page. Specifically:
    Link-o-rama

Sooooo, I guess you just gotta wait to see exactly what it was that you won! I do not see any return policy so you might break out the cap and gown as your gonna learn a lesson on this one! image

Most of the time when you try to buy a coin from an ignorant person, you get screwed if you complete the transaction. There are exceptions to every rule, however, but my gut on this one is that the seller “borrowed” the picture from somewhere. If that’s the case, his eBay career should be shortened to its current level of experience.

Well, that buyer seems very happy with the coin, so maybe it will work out after all! Of course, they only paid $15.

It would have been a cheaper education if you had asked *before* bidding (and winning). You don't seem too concerned about $50, thats good, but 3 more 'lessons' and your out $200. My opinion only, but I would suggest you keep it to trustworthy sellers and PCGS, ANACS, or NGC coins. Oh, and avoid any sellers who describe their coins as "shiny".

I am not trying to get something for free; $43 is not free. I bought an 1878 7/8 TF VAM 44 for $8. I bought a roll of 1878 8 TF for $18 a coin; that was about 7 or 8 years ago. Every one of the roll was MS 63 or better. I have also bought junk. Sometimes you get the bear sometimes the bear gets you.
