Just curious - what doors does being a professional coin grader open?

Suppose a coin grader wants to retire from coin grading after 10 years. Would having been a grader qualify them for anything in particular? Are there teaching opportunities through the ANA? Is there a place for a former professional grader other than at a grading service?

Many move on to become coin dealers. Then they use their inside contacts to get grades we mere mortals can only dream about.

Nearlly all become dealers or work for another coin company..... good examples are Mark Feld who used to work for NGC or Ryan Carrol who was a grader for PCGS at the age of 19-20 and now works for Heritage as one of their main graders/buyers. You can do almost anything in the business either for yourself or for a company because everything revolves around how to grade a coin.

Starting to get to know a few folks from going to the big shows and I see a ot of ex-graders end up working at firms or starting up a business themselves. Many of them are highly respected by the numimastic community such asone already mentioned Ryan Carroll. While I was in lot viewing, Ill bet I saw at least 4 large national dealers call Ryan over to ask him for his opinion on grade and the coin in general.

I am sure with that type of expereince and a great eye, you can just about work any where you want too in the business and name your price.
