If registry sets were ranked based on cost...

Would you prefer to overpay for a coin just to move higher in the rankings?

After all, it would be little different than buying an optimistically graded coin for the same purpose. And many people do that, right?

It would be all srewed up. Bad enough you would have people out there with more money than brains paying whatever for a coin just to out-do the other guy but you would also have other people getting "FAKE" receipts from Dealer buddies over stating what a coin cost so they could move up in the rankings as well.

    BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a way they are based on cost in thats its more costly to move up a grade or two. I would never pay more than necessary just to get on a list.

No, but buying ugly coins with high technical grades seems popular with the current system.

Certain coin dealers ( which I will leave unnamed ), consistently charge at least 20% more for all their coins than the majority of coin dealers, so instead of a 20% markup, they are charging 40% markup and wealthy individuals, who could care less about excessive markups, would end up with the #1 Registry Sets, according to your post.

Instead of being 5th, I'd be pretty close to the bottom.

Russ, at 34,000 posts, I'd say you've already hit bottom!

I think the sets at the top of the registery already prove your point.
