    Man, that is killer. I have a couple of times come across SMS Lincolns I thought were shot 68s ... never done better than 67. That is sweet ...

    SMS stands for Special mint set. They were a hybrid between a unc. coin and a proof coin. They were minted in the years 1965-1967. (Oh and for those smart a$$es, there were a few 1964 ones too - but those are worth thousands)

    Yes, that is a very pretty example of that coin.

    Lincolns from this era typically come with mushy detail because the master hub was shot. Lincoln would get the first of several facelifts in 1969. This is a very pretty coin with nice color, if the photo is accurate.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    That is certainly a nice coin - and hard to find in that condition.

    But I'll still take a cameo SMS Lincoln over that one.
