High grade AU at a minimum and $250 and up, price/value-wise.

Really Coinguy1? Even with that wear on the cheek it's high AU?

Purple73, I kid you not. Most Bust Halves, even those graded as high as MS66, display "cabinet/stacking friction" on the cheek.

Here's an NGC MS63, whether we agree with the grade or not:

The coin looks good in hand, I think AU 58

Out of the 5 coins I bought, I paid the most for this one.

I agree with Coinguy1 and I like the color and originality and even though this is a common date, the 250 up price range may be alittle less optimistic. 275 minimum. great looking coin.

Purple, I think you need to re-calibrate how you grade bust halves......

I was thinking au-58, and attractive!! If I could find bust halves like that for $70-$85, I'd be buying them all day long! image

After looking a little closer, I pulled out the loop, AU58 might be a stretch..

I'm thinking a bit too much rub for Au-58. I believe luster would be the determining factor. If it has full luster going through
the fields I might change my mind. Looks like some nice looking dirt on that one!

High AU, nice feathers on reverse, some luster still there.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

No need to be rough ..........jeeesh.....Loosen up a bit......not all of us are Pros' at grading these.

That "wear"(which it isn't, thank you) on the cheek threw me a bit.

Here is a PCGS AU53 (small date) and a PCGS AU58 (large date) for comparison.

  • Great comparison pic.

My coin fits right in between those two, grade wise.

    Thanx

AU55 if it will slab, which is always difficult to decide from a picture. In a slab worth about $240. In comparison to earlier date Bust Halves the 1834s are very nicely made.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I'd sure like to know where some of you folks are buying these slabbed au55-58 toned Bust halves
in the low 200.00 to mid 200.00 range?????????

This is one very well struck Capped Bust Half. Notice that the curls and the clasp are both full.
A number of these coins have a flat rt. wingtip, which you don't see here (am not familiar with the specifics of the date).

The color change on the cheek to me indicates wear. If you look closely, you will also see some wear in the cap just above ERTY of Liberty. Many attractive, higher end AUs of this series wind up in MS 62 holders.

    ms-60 slider in today's slab, but in reality, it's a gorgeous au-55+.
