Wow...Boom let you post pics for him?!

He's really good at posting pics and usually likes doing that himself.

    I grade them 66, 66, 67, 66, 67. But what do I know.image

Thanks John. These are all freshly graded and on the 35 there's no scratch on coin or slab. It must be one of those optical delusions. image The only change made, editing wise, was to the 43-S. When I tried and managed just that itty-bitty picture, I thought I had ruined it and in my haste to send the pix to Fats when he offered to help me by emailing him the pix, in my haste I sent one that I had been playing with.

None of the coins have been altered or painted...NOTHING but that one piece and I've tried again below. I did manage to retrieve it and at least get the shot of it's original color. I couldn't get it any clearer though but we'll keep trying.image

Nice group of Washies. I jut picked up a couple this weekend
at the Westofrd show (the 46-D and 46-S, both in 65). Slowly
creeping up to a full 40s, 50s and 60s set.

Your coins look to me as follows:

35 - 65 but just barely - soft strike and a few marks
the rest look like nice 65s with the '44 having the best shot
    at 66.

    All nice keepers.

I can't play this game because Boom and I have already talked about these and I already know the grades. But this is a very interesting thread and I strongly encourage everyone to participate. It's going to have a very interesting ending for you to check out.

The one I have below is the 43-S' actual hue.

Sorry it's blurry, but it IS larger than the small MS 70 I posted last night.image

As Kurt alluded to, there is a point to be made at the conclusion of this "poll", so I'd REALLY appreciate your honest opinions based on these coins in particular. This IS NOT and will not turn into anything nasty so, by all means, grade away!image

I don't know anything about washington quarters, but it appears that wing feathers are missing on the right wing of the '39D.

It might be nice if I told you guys the grades, huh>
Coin #1- was a PCGS 66 1935, cracked it out, tried my luck at 67 and lost. Now it resides in a PCGS 65 holder. Oh well.

Coin #2- is the most gorgeous PCGS 64 on the Planet.

Coin #3- is a stunning PCGS 62 image

Coin #4- is a beautiful PCGS 65...a true Gem amongst all Gems.

    Coin #5- downgraded from a 66 to a PCGS 65.

What can I say? I thought they were all 66s with shots at 67. Maybe next time.image

I forgot to mention that these and more were all sent in as free submissions ( Don't know why we refer to them as Free because we've paid for these submissions with the cost of our memberships etc and it STILL costs to ship both ways)

Included with the lot of 8 free sumissions on two seperate incoices, was a third,"paid for" submission. I noted that the "freebies" tend to be graded much more harshly than the paid for sumissions. ( This is JMHO) The paid for submission performed quite well.

The whole point of this thread was to first see how everyone else graded them AND secondly, to see if anyone else has noticed or had similar experiences with "freebies" being graded somewhat harder.

Thanks to those few who participated but especially to Fats and everyone else that's helped with learning to post pix here. image

    I would have guessed:

    MS65
    MS66
    MS58
    MS65
    MS65

And you're right, the 39-D is the most beautiful MS64 in the world.

If you would like to see the 43-S as it is, color-wise, look at one of my posts, maybe halfway down the page and click on the photo provided. I have yet to master posting pix her and when I made the original smaller to accomodate PCGS' guidelines, it got all blurry and pixelated.

Thinking I had ruined that shot, which was then in the recycle bin, I had to use one that I had not intended to use....one on which I had adjusted contast on and lightened just a bit. This is why everybody thinks it's AU.

Odd thing is, I have a PCGS 65 and 66 43-S and in person this coin rivals both of them.image

If it hadn't, I would never have wasted my time and money on such a low grade coin. Maybe later I can get Fats or someone to post pix of all 3 as they really are.

Unfortunately, the 43-S appers to have some very, very light friction on the obverse. The reverse looks mint state all day long. I suspect the graders couldn't decide whether or not they were seeing friction and thus gave is a compromised grade of MS62.
