What is it about "coinvangelists"?

So I was watching a shop-at-home channel the other day (I know, ha ha ha), and I listened to the salesmen talk in their usual loud voices about why you should buy their coins NOW and why you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY could not pass up their offers. They sounded like TV evangelists to me, so I dub them "coinvangelists".
My question is, why are the coinvangelists so looked down upon? Are their wares counterfeit? Are the prices too exorbitant? Is the merchandise dipped? Sorry if the questions seem like they have obvious answers to them, but I'm not too knowledgeable (yet). They 'vangelists seemed pretty brash, but they didn't seem like full-blown Con men to me.

Are the prices too exorbitant? Yes Typically double what they can be purchased from non-TV dealers.
Is the merchandise dipped? Sometimes
