Okay, here's how it lays out:

In the last three years, there have been a total of five PR65DCAM Accented Hairs graded at PCGS. One in April of 2003, Cert #21257843. That one was made by me.

The other four were made the first week of November, 2004. All were on the same submission that had a total of six DCAMs. The coins were submitted by dealer Finest Known. Their cert numbers are: 21755963, 21755964, 21755967, and 21755968.

So, dooper, where is the PR65DCAM you allegedly made?

Like that will happen. Doops has never given us a submission number to look at.

Buying a 1966 SMS set (retail value $15.00?) for $300.00 based upon a computer picture posted with an E-Bay listing that shows a possible CAM half is..............:

    a. gutsy; or

    b. foolish?

Gotta love the give and take of free enterprise. If someone can tell from a photo that the coin is a lock DCAM that will, when slabbed, give you back your acquisition costs and your holding costs and give you a profit, then Kudo's to them. It would be nice to display your expertise and knowledge by disclosing the information that proves same (cert. numbers) on your prior submissions.

As for me, I have no interest in gambling $300.00 on a hope that a DCAM exists in a set that otherwise would be worth $15.00. I would rather have the coin in hand to look at it with my own eyeballs before I spend moon money. The seller of this set ought to be very happy at the results of the sale. He, she (heck me) should consider posting pictures of future 1966-67 SMS sets with the top half of the clear plastic snap lock holder removed to better show off the quality of the coins.

Now does Marty really think Doops, et al are NUTS!, or is he just pissed cause his weren't big enough to stay in the hunt.image

Its not a bad gamble "if" you get extra pics that convince you the coin is indeed a Dcam, and on this kind of auction I always ask for them. I didn't follow this one, but I've been outbid at well over $300 on coins in third tier slabs or raw sets before. I've also lost a good number of rotated reverse half mint sets at $250+. This listing just got a little publicity. It always amazes me how the "moderns are worthless outside the holder" crowd always avoids threads like these. image For the right raw moderns sight-seen, I'd reach for the checkbook in a heartbeat. Obviously I'm not the only one. image Fortunately, you don't always have to. Some of the dealers/collectors are still snoozing. Let'em sleep. image

  • Dont sell ole Doops short. He may not be honest about the AH DCAM's in pcgs holders but he is a major player with plenty of money to monkey up the works on EBAY for everyone else. He comes in at the last second and he comes in big on the sets he wants. Sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses but he always bids high. So from now on the game is different on EBAY. Anything that remotely looks like a nice cam he will be on it like stink on a wet dog. If you really want one you had better come with big money or Doops will get it from you! image

I remember one night Doops paid moon money for a lot of coins board member lrc-tom had on eBay. He then turned around and returned them all for a refund. I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen with this set.

I'm pretty sure in Doops mind that only applies when he is the seller. When he is the buyer returns are always allowed.image

"Oilydog" has only 31 posts in 2.5 years, and all of a sudden he show up? Alt is verrrry likely!!

Come on Doops, you have a chance to prove the board wrong! Crack that set, use your curation secrets on the coin, send it to PCGS, and give us the submission number!! If you get 67 or 68 DCAM, you get the last laugh!!

  • fishcookerfishcooker Posts: 3,446 ✭✭
Awww, he's too busy eatin' shrimp coktails and playin' golf.

  • I dont think what I said was really all that flattering about doops quite frankly. Oilydog is not a doop/doops alt id. I was just trying to point out that if he wants to be, he can be a major player on the ebay scene regarding sets that look like they may have a cameo coin in them. He was before, and if he stays healthy he can be again. It just means the rest of us have to pony up more money or we will be left out in the cold, that is all I was trying to say. He most definately can corner the EBAY market if he so desires.

How do you know all this image
  • Because he was a major player on EBAY until the spring of 2003. That is how I know. Just ask anyone, such as Russ. He can tell you. He knows as much about him as I do.

This thread has been hanging around, hanging around and hanging around some more even though it looks like the quintessential "dead horse". Doops has apparently been unable to find the Cert # that people are requesting as proof of his talent in sniffing out cherries and making them.

Even though the horse appears to be dead, I will beat it a few more times so that this thread tops 100 replies. See you on the flip side of 100.
