Fire safe question

Hi,

I've been reading the archives and just wanted to double check something.
I understand the whole safe at your home vs. safe deposit box at the bank. Also, the humidity issue in smaller home fire safes. But what I didn't see is whether slabs (specifically PCGS slabs) are sealed to whatever moisture would be present in a home fire safe. I assume they are, but the humidity issue is brought up in every post about either safes or safety deposit boxes. Is it just raw coins that people are worried about? As a short-term protection I'd like to put my slabs in a fire safe. That OK?

Another forum member did a two-or-more-year test on slab preservation inside his safe. Half the slabs were put into sealed gallon bags, the ones that were not began to spot in a negative way.

In conclusion get some plastic sealable gallon bags for your coins that will be stored in the safe. I also recommend buying the white intercept double protection storage boxes that hold ten slabs as well as reusable silica gel for the bank box and home safe. You cold get all these things for under $15 at a coin store or on the internet. This way you could sleep better.

The slabs are not completely airtight but they will greatly reduce the chance of harm. Short term you should have no problem storing them there just make sure to open the safe occasionally.

Slabs are NOT water or air tight. If you put coins in anything plastic make sure it's PVC free & archival quality. Silica gel is useless unless the area it's protecting
is completely sealed, otherwise it will just keep drawing moisture from outside the safe.

this is similiar to a standard problem with gun safes and you can use the same solution....they make a plug in small bulb that drys the air that we use in gun safes to keep mosture down....could do the same with a safe.....however big difference between "fire" safe and "buglar" safe.... another solution is to use silca type gel cans, sheets, etc.... these turn color as water is absorbed...you can dry them out in oven and reuse.....
