I'm about to find out just how good NCS is.
I just sent this one off to them:

Underneath all the crap is a very strong cameo coin. Not a DCAM, but a solid cameo with very few marks. It developed all that gunk over 40 years of sitting in the packaging and, from experience, I know I wouldn't be able to improve it much. It'll be interesting to see how well NCS does. This is the toughest one I've ever sent them.

I have a raw 1954 CAMDCAM Frankie I picked up in a Capital holdered set. It is a very clean "black and white" cameo except for some tarnish on the reverse at 2:00 to 8:00. The tarnish is a very light yellow-white in color. I tried to remove it with a home brew with no luck. I had a dealer I trust try to remove it and again no luck. He said send it to NCS and if they can remove the tarnish, I could have a high grade DCAM on my hands (don't I wish).
After seeing how things work out for Russ with his 1965 SMS Kennedy I just might have to give NCS a shot with my 1954 Frankie. I think that Ben looks very cold, however the liberty bell could use some extra snow whote frost.
They did a spectacular job on a very difficult coin. They couldn't get it all, but they came damned close, leaving only a couple of wispy remnants.

Good question!
Maybe a pressure washer?
Water pic?
It would be interesting to know.....even understanding that it still takes experience and ability past the point of just knowing.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I don't understand why PCGS hasn't followed suit with their own conservation service?

The Ludlow Brilliant Collection (1938-64)
I have a couple of proof Walkers that I need to send to NCS. Just haven't been brave enough yet.
After some of the reults I have seen on these boards lately, it might be time.

you bring out some incredible threads! I was wondering why you don't think the recent 1967 you had sent in had a "worse before" look.
looking at the job they did, it seems like they got all of the reverse fixed, wheras the obverse didn't look as bad and couldn't get all of it...

That one was just a layer of haze. This one was encrustated gunk; much thicker and on the coin for a far longer period of time. A much more difficult restoration project.

We all would like to know. It may be worth taking a non paid internship.
Thanks
You get submission privileges when you join up at the collectors society, which also gives you submission privileges to NGC, CGC, and, ugh, SGC.
And now PMG too, in case you have any currency you would like graded.
