Possible new Ebay scam....this one is new to me

I jsut received an e-mail from Ebay saying my bid for an item was cancelled....the problem is, I haven't bid on anything in a long time.

The subject line of the e-mail says "TKO Notice - your Ebay bid was cancelled"

It lists an item number (7502361792) and a URL for the auction, both of which are hyperlinked. I did not open the links, but went to ebay and checked My Ebay file....no bids registered in recent weeks. also, checked the item number and it goes to Here

Notice, brand new Ebayer with zero feedback. also, it is not something that I would have bid on so I am not just another board member with alzheimers.

What do you think? Smells scammy to me.

I should add that I have gotten quite a few of these fake Ebay mesages in the past, but this one seems a little slicker than those....anyone else gotten one like this?

New scam, I am sure. Ebay could go a long way to help us, if they did not allow bidder to bidder contact.

I have reported to Ebay and they will be contacting me. In the past, I have reported all of these to them, and I must say that thye have always followed up, and for a long time, I did not receive any. I guess the crooks just keep figuring out new ways to get us.

Sounds like a scam. The links in the email would probably take you to a phishing site, laden with spyware and viruses.

I am lurking a lot these days and do check PMs often.

And the veterinary advice is still available, if no more accurate than in the past.

And then, if they did not allow "bidder to bidder" contact, people would complain how they cannot warn other bidders (even against ebay's rules of doing so) about a ripoff auction.

I recieved one of those fake bid cancellation notices yesterday. I just flushed it because I knew it was bogus.

Yeah, this one caught me. Luckly for me they were greedy and asked for my comcast.net password as well. Had to change my password, but I would of been in deep do-do if the phisher wasn't overly greedy!

I don't see how clicking on the link is a problem. Filling out a form might be a problem, though.

There's all sorts of "drive-by downloads" that can be inflicted on a computer (OK, a Windows computer) just by clicking a link. If you've got a robust virus scanner with all the latest patterns and regularly scan for spyware and other nasties, you should be fine. But if you're running relatively unsecure, you most likely just became a zombie, even if you didn't fill out the form.

I got a TKO email about 4-5 months ago for an item I didn't bid on. I hate to admit it, but I'm getting lackadaisical reporting spoof ebay and paypal emails. I've just been deleting them.

I got an email from ebay today also. Saying that the requested information about my account and the ATM Pin number supplied is not the same one in our records. To ensure your account is not comprimised please login to account by clicking this link. NOT

Problem here is I never have used my account at ebay.

Never have bid, bought or sold anything on ebay. Just registered about 5 months ago. Have the low lifes gotten info of all registered ebayers ? Or has someone tryed using my account ?

This email looked very legit with the ebay logo at the top and from the administrator _IDxxxxx@ebay.com

I never got any of those e-mails until just last week. I got 3 or 4 allegedly from eBay and one claiming to be from PayPal.

This one does sound slick, thanks for the heads up.

I just got a new/bad one from "paypal". It was an email (but without personalization, which was the first clue it was a bad email) that I had received a deposit from someone including a realistic sounding name/address. There was only the need to make a simple click to collect $52. Fortunately I am strictly a buyer so I couldn't figure out who would be sending me money, but even so, inherent natural greed actually made me pause and not-think about following the link. Strangely, common sense did win out, but I can see how this could trap a high volume seller!
