How many coin collector folks are going to join PCGS currency
I just got my notice in the mail yesterday about PCGS Currency. For those that didn't, here's the deets:
1 year = $99, or $79 for current CC members
You get
- the new Whitman official red book "A guide to United States paper money" (Friedberg)
- A sample currency note in PCGS holder (no details about note)
- Submission privileges
- A voucher for 5 currency submissions (15 days, all submitted at the same time)
I'm not a currency collector, but I have 2 notes that I could submit. This is enticing me to at least find 3 more that I like and join for the premier year of the new service. I wanted to get the book anyway.
I was wondering if any other coin collectors are thinking of dabbling in currency b/c of the new service. Or maybe are already currency collectors. Any reservations to joining first year? Will it take them a few years to build credibility?

The currency board doesn't have all the adolescent rantings like the coin board does either. People there tend to respect each other.
The only note I have was pulled from circulation and that was just a simple 1935 $10 I believe it was.

I just posted a few questions a few days ago, and all were answered very nicely.
Great people there

Just to get an idea of cost ... go look at some of the auctions Lynn Knight has put on recently.

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
<< <i>I like notes and would enjoy collecting some but as mentioned earler in this thread the cost is steep. >>
Are you kidding. You can find notes with existing populations less than proof gold for less than it costs to own a worn 93-S Morgan. A PMG 65 note from 1864 just sold on ebay for 125 bucks, find me any coin that old for that price.
Currency is much rarer , much cheaper and much more attractive than most of the semi-common coins selling in the 4 figure ranges today.
Nope, they'll have to get rich off of me on coins

So are the holders going to be hard or soft plastic and breathable or airtight?
Not me. I didn't even re-up with the Collector's Club after they did away with the freebies at the gold level.
One day I probably will buy these, but not in the near future. My collecting budget is very limited for now. I am going cold turkey on coins for at least a year now. So I guess I will have to start checking out the currency forum soon and see what's happening over there.
