Until recently I never had any emails from PayPal, in the last few weeks I've had a few fake emails and such, it's really quite disturbing and I was wondering if this was one image.

    D,

If you get ANY email wanting you to click a link to do ANYTHING, it is fradulent. The ONLY way Paypal will ask you to do anything is to go directly to the site and open your account directly.

Forward anything of this nature to spoof@paypal.com, and they will email you back with a confirmation whether it has come from them or not.

Believe me, these people who try to capture ID info make their emails, supposedly from Ebay and Paypal, look/sound VERY convincing.
  • I get a lot of those and ones supposedly from eBay. Once, a NetZero email came offering me $5 to fill out a digital camera survey. I probably should have taken that one instead of reporting it to abuse@NetZero.Net.

I got the same one about two weeks ago.

    I sent it to eBay.

I seem to get at least a couple of them a month.

Ignore it or send it to ebay to investigate.

Edti - I meant paypal, not eBay. It's easy to get them confused anymore. The line between them is almost non-existant.

    It is Spam!

My motto is when in doubt...DON'T believe it.

If PayPal or eBay needs to get ahold of you they will identify you by name.

I received an email stating I opened a new account and listed automobiles on eBay.
I was to click on their link and log in if that was not the case.

    Be very careful!

  • I received an email supposedly from eBay offering me a chance to win a Cadillac (what's that Cadillac named after a serpent?) Oh, yeah a Viper. Had a picture and everything. The email was forwarded to Spoof@eBay.com and they said it wasn't theirs.

  • It looks like someone is phishing. Don't respond to the email. Forward to spoof@paypal.com. Let them handle it. In the mean time you may want to change your passwords to paypal, ebay, etc.. It never hurts to do this anyway.

Just remember: PayPal emails will always address you by name and will never ask you to click on a link in the email to "verify" your account.

Ebay will always address you by your user ID and will never ask you to "verify" by clicking on a link in the email.

As hard as it is to believe, estimates are 1-2% of people who receive theses spoofs fall for them.
  • These mails are getting more and more realistic. They are all spoof and need to be ignored or forwarded to eBay. Never click on any links in them. If in doubt close the mail and use your browser to visit your eBay or PayPal account. If anything needs attention you will know by logging in to your account.

Spoofers, virus writers, spammers, and slimeware writers are all evil and should be tarred and feathered then banished!
  • 1 to 2% is the going response rate to any email mailings. From a Sales standpoint of view.
