If you wanted to start another new set - What would you start and why? Cents, Nickels, Dimes, Halves

Just about finished collecting a modern 1959-Present PCGS Lincoln Proof set and was curious to see what you would start next if you wanted to do so. Silver looks cool, but so do some others.

I would start collecting the classic commemorative series. A lot of great history, many beautiful designs, the 'keys' in the series, (while pricy,) are at least within a mortal realm. Unlike most of the market, today's prices for these coins are generally significantly less than their historic highs, and many nice coins can be had for less than $100.00. Plus when you are finished, you would have a truly impressive set. It would almost look like a story book...

Another series I have thought might be fun to collect by date are $2.50 gold indians. According to PCGS, a complete set in MS60 would only cost $3.25K to build (if you decide that a 1911-D weak D sufficiently represents 1911-D.)

Still, if classic commems and gold are too pricy, then I might consider Franklin Halves or Peace Dollars. Both have great designs and historic significance - with the Franklins there are no dates that are prohibitively expensive - and with the Peace Dollars only a few coins in the set command a premium but even those may be surmountable.

I would start a gold type set to compliment my existing everything-but-gold type set. I don't own any gold right now.

Either Saint Gaudens $20 gold or Standing Liberty Quarters. If I had the money, the $20 gold pieces, otherwise the quarters. Those quarters are of an absolutely beautiful design and they're very affordable in XF/AU but tough to find in that shape and in original condition.

I would love a type set of gold with one of each mint. Of course, I would love it. Not afford it. The good thing is that I may be able to buy some southern gold soon.

Never thought about GOLD. Could get very spendy, I agree. Like the COMM option. Great history and cool designs.

My next set I am planning on collecting is very likely Barber Quarters and then Barber Dimes. Not sure what I am going to do about the Keys in the Quarter set so. Likely grade being nice original VG. Currently working on Halves in VG.

I have alot of sets started such as modern bullion silver coins like Eagles and Maple Leafs and others from around the world and a gold type set so.

If I had to do something completely new it might be Seated Liberty Quarters in F/VF grade. Or a complete type set of Seated Liberty Coinage (Half Dimes to Dollars).

I was considering starting an early-commem set, however, it's very expensive to get all of them in UNC grade. (The Hawaii one especially!) There's 50 coins in there and most ranging around 100$ for MS62/63 (Some are 70ish in 62) gets kind of expensive

proof type set 63if the 63 is amazing and it is price prohibitive in 64 like seated dollars

64 65 pre 1916 coins with nice eye appeal cameo and/or toning

coins that have great vlaue and are soild value maybe will not go up i tyhink they will but have l;ittle to no downsoide are fun to collect and there are always demand and bvuyers if and when you want to sell

also early commems 65 66 witrh decent color lightly toned but nice eye appeal

wheat cents from pocket change. Keeps the cost under a $100 a coin when averaged out for a complete set.

I'm thinking of starting a Buffalo Nickel set in a Dansco Album for my Daughter.

I bought her 10 nice ones about 6 months ago and she just loves to look at them.

Do a barber half dollar set.

I good you can put one together for under $2000 or so.

Better grades will cost more and be a great challenge.

These are neat old coins that are nice and big.

Won't be starting any new sets soon -- I'm already somewhat overextended as is.

That said, if I do start one, it will be one that my daughter and I can do together. Something she can touch a lot without me freaking out over it. Unfortunately, she has not shown much interest in numismatics yet, but I'm still working on her...

Modern Proof Platinum Eagles - I really like the vistas of liberty designs. Not really much of a challenge here, as long as you're not looking for PCGS PR70DCAM grades, it's just a matter of $$ and a little time, but still I think a full collection would look pretty cool all together. If and when platinum ever comes back down to what I consider affordable levels and the proofs are near melt value, I probably will look to pick up at least one denomination for each "type".

Someday I want to do bust halfs and after that gem buffalos. If I were
to start a new set today it would be clad dimes. They deserve a lot more
attention than I've given them and I have a good start on a set.

I mentioned above I am working on this set, my grade of choice VG this is about a $2500 set approximately.

Finding the coins that ain't slick AG or G coins which aren't cleaned has been a nice challenge.

I picked VG because it has a full rim on both front and back(this is the challenge) and you get some of liberty on the front and some pretty good detail on the back. Nice looking coins in this grade in my book.

So I would say this would be a nice older set which can actually be finished, excluding the 1892 micro O.

I'm collecting 1959-date Lincolns too (although ms, not pf). My next sets are Lincolns 1909-1958 and Jeffersons 1938-date. After that is clad dimes and quarters. Then will be Buffalo nickels, Silver Roosies, Silver Washingtons and Kennedys and Ikes. You can see my philosophy, start at the simplest most basic and expand outward.

It depends on how much I could afford...at one end I'd go for Roosevelt dimes in high grade FB grades, and at the other end I'd love to have a complete set of Standing Liberty quarters...guess 'll start with the dimes.

Since a new set direction is blurry right now for me, I'm just going to start out by getting a few semi-keys/better dates of each and go from there and hopefully something will spark an interest!
