Actually, messing with a fellow Steelers fan (Kranky) is what got Bootleg on my bad side. It was not enough just to be a scumbag--I do not have time to go after all of them.

Wonder why he went with a has-been communist for his icon when Castro is still available, and Kim Jong Il, Stalin, all more prominent. That icon isn't available on the menu here, is it?

I do not know bootleg or any of you guys, but you are all f’ed up.

Look at how all of you jumped on the bandwagon to attack a new guy.

Did you not learn your lessons from the jade thread?

I do not like to post here anymore, for many reasons.
    1) A regular could start a thread with a fart and get 100 replies
    2) A new guy needs advice but gets overlooked.
    3) I am not a seller, I have never sold a coin but two people gave me a rating of 1. Thanks a lot, that is real classy. Wtf

Ever notice how newbie’s first post usually state that they have been reading here for a long time before their first post. That is because we are intimidated to make a post here.

I have been fed up with this place so many times but admit there is great knowledge here.

I admit what I learned here is priceless and would like to thank all of you for sharing the gems of information.

But you have to stop ganging up on people.

IMO bootleg did not deserve that. Big deal he has 2 npb in 2001. You don’t have to buy his crap and you do not have to say he is nuts.

Go back and search his posts. He had some good knowledge to share and I hope he comes back and I hope you guys act your age and stop this new guy bias.

And stop attacking people for spelling and grammatical errors. This is a numismatic forum not a poetry forum.

I am 27 years old and have a lot to learn. I would like to continue to learn from all of you. But some of you need to learn how to behave.

    Mikebombs,

The thread in question is nothing like the jade thread.

We did jump the gun in Jade's thread and many of us feel terrible about it (I sure did), but Kranky offered Bootleg some great advice...

<< <i>You'll have a tough time selling raw coins with a no refund/no return policy to this audience. Just something to think about. >>

    And bootleg replies...

<< <i>this is just dumb,i dont have to explain myself. >>

    HTubbs replied...

    << <i>An 1883 N/C 5c for $100 BIN $1,200? a used folder with a few low grade common date mercury dimes $75 BIN $450? You're either nuts or just plain humorous. >>

    And bootleg replies...

<< <i> Hey now, i might be nuts ,but FYI sold a few partial sets for X3 more, also sold coins in less grade for more, but im not stingy like you,$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$,.........
you my friend need to find your own faults and then well point out flaws in your products and say dumb childish comments, like yours.. >>

I've never met Kranky or HTubbs nor have we had any conversations, but both are 100% correct!

Bootleg's coins, combined with inflated prices and a no refund/no return policy are just the sort of things that give eBay a black eye.

I have to agree that this seller deserves a dishing. What happens to the average consumer who buys his goods, thinking they are getting anything remotely worth what is being asked. Sure, there's people out there who will pay anything on Fleabay, but why bring it here?
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

I'm sorry, Mike, but your defense of Bootleg is indefensible.

The outrageous prices he posts, his wild claims (a coin dealer's estate? Gimme a break!), name calling, no-returns auctions and his calling responders greedy when it is HE who is grievously overcharging makes me wonder why in the world you would feel like supporting what in my opinion is a bonafide scam artist?

Birds of a feather, perhaps? Just curious.......

    Mike,

I did not enter the fray until he called my friends "childish" and "dumb". His offering is a blatant rip-off akin to the scammers mentioned here daily on ebay. I do not want our community to get polluted with such.

Wtf

    1. Completely untrue, and I find your assertion insulting. Regulars and new or infrequent posters all contribute.
    2. Sometimes the new poster has difficulty "speaking up" when he has a question. Sometimes the newbie asks a question that cannot be answered.
    3. The rating system is a joke. There is no scale for it. Turn it off-I did.

Everyone was a newbie at one time.

But some of you need to learn how to behave.

Sorry, I do not need any advice on behavior, but thanks for the offer. If you have coin advice, it will be appreciated
  • Options
Mikebombs, if this forum intimidates you, you need a thicker skin. The coin market is very loosely regulated, if at all, so you need a "thick skin" to participate and keep from getting taken advantage of.

Also, "bootleg" started the nastiness instead of responding to the intital comments in a constructive manner. After that, "the gloves were off".

You have to look at each situation objectively and with a dose of "healthy skepticism". Cases in point: there have been several threads accusing Ebay sellers of "shill bidding" which were quickly turned around once forum members evaluated the situation and came to a consensus that "shill bidding" was not taking place. So there is not an inherent "lynch mob" against Ebay sellers --- many of this forum sell on Ebay!!

So Mikebombs, stick around. After a while, I think you will learn a lot, and conclude that the forum participants, for the most part, are fair --- tough at times, but fair.

Oh, and the ratings, just ignore them.

Edited to add: On coin market "regulation" I did not mean to imply there is not regulation at all -- the coin market is largely SELF - regulated via the numistmatic organizations (ANA, PNG), the market-accepted grading services, and the conduct of the industry, which include efforts on this forum to root out and expose fraud. Frankly, I think self regulation is preferable, but it needs to be effective to stave off increased government regulation. For example, the escalating numismatic fraud on Ebay may eventually invite increased goverment regulation if the industry cannot effectively contain it.

I see your point, thank you for explaining. My not knowing the merc market I did not understand what the problem was.

I agree with some of what is said above, but not all of it. IMHO Bootleg did snap at whoever suggested that the no return policy was not good for business. But picking on someone because of their grammar and spelling is just plain nasty. And nasty is what Mikebombs I think is referring to. The nastiness that Jade talked about. Most of the regulars here are very kind and very friendly and very free with advice. But there are also some sharks here as well, who are more than happy to jump into the fray once a little blood is in the water. I assume most people just do what I do and ignore those folks.
Cant we all just get along.?

No they are not......there is not prescription drug coverage as part of SSI. Now if he is on medicaid, that would be different.

Of course, medicaid coverage is automatic, at least in our state.

Well said, young man. There are many strange folks on these boards, and some well-intended intelligent people with good numismatic knowledge. I believe that there is an inner circle (it's easy to see who they are), and some who enjoy ganging-up and "flaming". They act as if they own the boards--baloney. What really irks them on is when a person defends himself or herself, then they PM each other and pour it on en masse. Been there, done that.

As in life, you have to take the good with the bad. You get a helleva mixture here, to be sure.

Hang-in there, and speak your mind.
