Completed the Dansco 7070 US Type Set Album

Well, finally finished filling this album with coins:

Still need to do a few upgrades but am pretty happy with the collection so far.

Edited to ask: Do any of you 7070 collectors go after the tougher early coins, the ones for which there are no spaces, after completing this basic survey of US types?

Mine has caused a tiny bit of gold rim toning on an unc. Morgan, unc. Walking Lib. Half, and unc. Frankie. Nothing else I've noticed. The Morgan was in the album for about 22 years before it started toning.

Yes, I finished filling the holes in late 2003 with a seated dollar
have been selectively upgrading the "weakest links" for a year+ now..
you can kind of pick out my next targets, I'd like a nicer legend seated dime and T1SLQ
that dime is a proof 1862 (mintage 550!

) and actually looks better in hand, I'll try to take a better shot of just that coin

Check with some older coin dealers.

Whitman no longer makes (but did make) a terrific slide type album for US type.

It didn't duplicate major types like Dansco, but it had LARGE bust quarters (also dime) and had the BUST dollar but only ONE seated dollar. I still have the one I made out of that album plus I tore up one of their GOLD albums (that includes Classic head 2.5 and 5.....and....the THREE DOLLAR) and I just punched holes for it to fit the type set album. Quite a nice setup and good representation of the earlier types.

Mottoes and "no mottoes" were omitted. Just the major type for each.

Some coin dealers out there may have one in the dusty parts of the shop.

topstuf, I actually do have a 2-volume whitman type set albums, the old blue one with the earliest copper and silver coins, but no gold. I keep my "b" set in it, mostly coins that used to be in the dansco but got upgraded.

Your set blows me away. The whole set is beautiful, but that 1837 Bust half is awsome.

Come to think of it, I could go on and on about alot of the coins in the book.

Thanks Jeremy, I'm glad folks enjoy seeing these coins, it's nice to have you all to share them with.

Several folks have started this fun album, and shouldn't be discouraged if their coins don't look like these;
mine didn't at first, either, and the process of slowly upgrading continues (for me) long after the last hole is filled.

In many cases, the coins you see are the 2nd or 3rd of the type that have been in this book... things got real interesting once I got to slab-cracking.

What makes this set so fun is how much you can learn about coin collecting. For example, you quickly learn how difficult it is to fill certain holes with nice types, such as:

Draped Bust and Classic Head large cents
Capped Bust Quarter
Seated Dollars

You also learn that some holes are suprisingly easy to fill:

Early Half Cents
Almost all of the dimes are easy to fill except the capped bust

And then you discover a whole new area of collecting like:

Early Commeratives
Capped Bust Halves

Too much fun.
