Anyone know how gold has been performing against other currencies? I know much of the rise is due to the drop in the dollar, but I'm curious as to how much of the rise is the weak dollar and how much is a global increase in gold values.

Gold is evil. You think it is rising but it is not. Owning it is not profitable by anyone ever. Buy stocks NOW!

It's hard for me to get all excited over gold bullion prices. It's really only moved up about 12% or so in the past year, and it's only slightly higher than it was 10 years ago.

I can however understand the excitment from the gold bugs since it's been such a poor performer for so long.

I see holding gold as more of a self-protection measure. The dollar is being allowed to sink in value, which is inflationary. The government complains that one of the problems contributing to the trade defecit is the low domestic savings rate - inflation will cause stuff to become so darn expensive people will stop buying the "optional/luxury" items and start saving...
