I need help on this 1877 50c pattern - should I buy it??

    I am a big fan of the reverse but not the (Morgan) obverse. Since the obverse contributes 70% to the overall score, I personally would pass.

    Well done.

    Funny. This coin is one of the best of only six known, it's the first appearance of the Morgan Dollar obverse design, and it has a provenance that goes back to something earlier than 1883. How is it even possible that something this cool can be privately owned, much less reasonably affordable?

    Love it, it is a wonderful coin/pattern.

    It is interesting that the lower arrowhead on the reverse is on a bolt of lightning (or so it appears from the zig-zag shaft of the arrow).

    I wonder what made someone consider doing that? I'd hate to try to shoot an arrow that looked that way!

    Never noticed that before -- that is a strange quirk of the design.

    That is an intresting arrow. Both the base (the eagle is standing on) and the arrows seem to anticipate designs of the 1920-30's. I suspect it was "artistic license" to fill the space left below the other 2 arrows.
