This seller screwed me on shipping cost, should I neg him?

So, I win this auction (which I sniped way from Marty).

Shipping costs weren't listed. When I got the seller's invoice, he tacked on $10.00 for shipping. I got the package in today, a regular envelope not even padded, and postage was $2.99.

Should I neg him?

probably a neutral since you actually received the item or take it up with the seller to get 6-7 bucks back then leave positive

For a 7 buck rip? I'd move on. Besides you were cherrypicking him and if he knows what you do, it's sometime tacked on as a cost of doing business.

It might be worth a neutral, but I don't think that is worth a neg if you didn't bother to ask before you bid what the shipping cost would be.

So you just paid about 45% of selling price for shipping? If you contacted him like he asked in the ad, and he said at whatever it costs him, then I'd neg the guy. If he did what he said he'd do, or you didn't ask, then learn from the mistake and ask the next time you win a low value item. By the way, were there coins in the envelopes?!!!

E-mail him & ask for a $7.00 refund. No feedback threat or anything like that though. He'll get the message just from the refund request.
Screw him since such a ridiculous amount wasn't posted in the auction. If he doesn't refund the money then fry him.

Well, since you didn't ask the seller first, you really can't complain. It is excessive. He actually recovered the fees for selling on ebay. I just wouldn't leave any feedback.

What MS70 said, though if he didn't give a refund on the overcharge, I'd probably slap him with a neutral rather than a neg.

You did get a good deal and received the product, but somebody who ambushes a bidder with a $10 fee and then uses only $2.99 of it to mail in an unpadded envelope deserves some criticism.

If you made a major rip even after the shipping, I'd let it go. But if you really want to press the issue, ask why they charged you $10 for something that cost $3 to ship. They may refund some. In any event, to me it's not worth eating a retaliatory neg over $7.

In my opinion the kind of deal Russ got is not an issue. I also think Russ is partly to blame for not asking how much shipping would cost.

You're absolutely right. Normally, when there is no shipping charge listed, I eMail and ask ahead of time. I didn't on this one because I didn't want to risk any contact that might cause the seller to look closer at what he had.

I completely agree in principle. But when a likely retaliatory neg is at stake, you need to pick your battles, IMO. This just doesn't seem worth it.

Whew - I thought it was me for a second.

Even though he charges more for shipping then I would, it isn't negable. I see alot of sellers charging $5.95 for a single coin lately.

1) It wasn't posted but you didn't ask
2) It was probably "reasonable" to him. He charged $6 for a gold bezel and $3 for a raw Lincoln in other auctions

Just deduct the extra $4 you would have wanted not to pay from your profit.

Edit - I recently paid $10 S/H/I for 2 proof sets also. The guy was charging $5 S/H and $5 required insurance and I bought 2. I did get him to combine it instead of $20 for S/H/I

If you buy right, you can make a nice chunk of change on eBay selling sets still in the unopened shipping packages. They generally bring stupid money.

Whats in there Russ. Don't worry about the postage, did he send what you wanted on time? Many people who sell on ebay don't really know what there selling. Or it was swiped from somebody or what ever. We still are all looking for that pot at the end of the rainbow.

Russ didn't comply with the TOS because Russ didn't contact the seller like the TOS said so Russ should go neg himself and give the seller a glowing praise for the great product at such a reasonable price packaged so well and shipped so promptly.

Some people consider their time important.
Thus the time it takes to package up something, drive it down to the USPO or UPS office is important to them.
Plus the gasoline involved in doing it too.
I know a lot of companies that rake you pretty bad on shipping even small items. You have to buy a whole lot of stuff to
make it up on S&H.
I don'tsee a problem, since you recieved the items.

I don't think you should bid anymore on those high shipping cost or not listed shipping cost....What the H*** did you get a deal or not? This is some of my best buys, nothing like a 10 buck shipping charge + ins to decrease the price of an item(s). You can steal these for less than they usually bid for. Seller lost, I tell him to do this more often you love taking him to the bank!

Russ,that happened to me also.I purchased an item for $3.99 and when I received the total price it came to $10.00.
I did not neg. him about the S+H because I had forgot to check the S+H prices.What I did do was "tell him I would never buy from him again".The product was very good and I thought I got a great price on it.I was the only bidder.
