A collectors dream...

I just purchased airline tickets to visit St.Petersburg (Leningrad) the middle of next month. The last time I was there I was not a collector. Being that I am now I intend on spending two to three weeks looking over the 75,000 medals and 360,000 Russian and World coins that the Hermitage Museum has in its possession. My wife has business she has to take care of which will leave me with all free time during the business hours....heh heh This is going to be sweet.

    Cool beans, Cacheman!!! Don't get caught lifting anything....image I heard about the prisons in Russia.

    I've been to the Hermitage, but didn't see any of the coins. The place is simply stunning; I don't think I"ve seen a more impressive museum in the world.

    I have visited the museum countless times in the past but as I said, I was just a generalist viewer. You could spend months in the place and not see everything. I just read where the largest country collection of medals is Germany with 8000...I hope a few of those are Goetz pieces.

    I was curious if anyone had ever seen the Hermitages coins. I understand that the total collection, of which only a small fraction can be shown, contains over 1 million coins/medals.

    P.S. While you're in Russia would you pick up a few of these for us?

    Sounds like a cool trip! I didn't get to go because I couldn't find anyone to go with. Actually, there was someone to go with but she wasn't my girlfriend and my girlfriend at the time wouldn't have liked me going with her... It's a long story.

    Steve, have you tried contacting Severo regarding that token? He said they were readily available for a couple bucks. I don't know how often he's online here, but perhaps you can contact him through his website.
