Is it appropriate to e-mail set holders with coin offers?

I personally would not object. However you should inform them how you obtained their email address and ask them to reply to have you remove them from your list if desired.

To buy or sell? Actually I guess it doesn't matter. I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you let it drop if they say no.

I get alot of junkmail, that has nothing to do with coins.

I'll take any email that has to do with coins with no complaints. I don't understand people that act like their email is some sacred place where it hurts to get an email that doesn't interest them.

On the one hand it is unsolicited email.

On the other, why would you put your email address in your set listing if you didn't want to be contacted about coins.

I don't mind it as long as it is relevant (it's a series I collect and the price of the coin is around the price of other coins in my collection).
If the coin is 10 times the price of the most expensive coin in my set then I just think the person is stupid.

I think that it is wrong to take the email addresses for a general coin list.

However, I think that it is fine to offer specific coins based on a person's
set, or to inquire if a person is interested in selling a specific coin.

Spam is spam, and I will not do business with spammers. There is one outfit I used to do business with who decided to share my email address with another dealer, and I will not buy from either one now.

I welcome all coin offers as well as coin news. If you don't want offers or news from other collecters do not show it in your profile. I don't think it is wrong to e-mail someone with special coin offers...etc. as long as you do not be forceful about it. It would however be wrong to sell someone's email address to a general coin company that sends you tons of stuff that is from people all over the country.

The simple way to avoid what you consider spam is to "not" put your E-mail address in your Registry Set.If a person has a coin that would fit my Registry Set contact me ! You can always say no to an offer.

If a fellow collector or registry set participant had a coin that would be an upgrade for my set, I would like to hear from them. I couldn't afford to buy it, but I'd like to hear anyway.

When my e-mail was listed I had a few offers. I didn't see any problems with that. I have also had PMs.

I have even purchased a few for my set that way.

When I was very active in the Registry, I listed my email address for the express purpose of providing a way for people to contact me if they had coins that might help my Registry set ranking/needs. When I decided to no longer be an active participant in the Registry game, I removed my email address. No worries and no problems.

In the past, I have also sent PMs to a handful of board members offering them material I had for sale that they were known to deal in. I explained up front why I was contacting them, and received polite responses (but no sales). No harm and no foul as far as I am/was concerned.

I never mind an unsolicited PM or email about coins from fellow members (as long as their correspondence isn't obviously Spam or an obvious blanket offering. I'm always on the lookout for coins I would like to buy, and I'd much prefer to buy from fellow board members.

I get very few solicitations and I don't mind getting the ones that I do receive. I prefer to see the coin in its holder, and, as long as I can also see the macro lens version of the coin being offered for sale.

I have picked up a few coins from these solicitations as well.

While it's definitely spam to email set holders with offers, it's not the worst kind of spam.

They do have the option of displaying their email address or not. So I sort of figure that if they display their email address with the set, they're open for communication. Approach them, maybe, but do so tactfully.

I do not list my email address on my registry sets to prevent unsolicited spam. I get enough spam already -even with the filters. I prefer to contact sellers on coins I am interested in, that way I am in control of the situation.

I don't mind a PM or two on this forum. The behaviour here is more professional - I have yet to receive any spam PM's here.

I think I have been contacted only once as I recall and it was not an offer to sell a specific coin. I have had a couple asking to buy if I ever got around to upgrading anything.

SSSSSSSooooooooooo! We do Lincoln Cents mostly, and we have some submissions that are going to start coming back soon and steadily to the end of the year. We have also been dabbling in nickles, and dimes some what.

I'm mading notes on who is strongly against e-mails, and what kind of e-mails would be prefered by who, LOL!

But it would hurt if anyone who is interested in Lincoln's to let me know the name of their collections (PM's or e-mails to knobs4469@yahoo.com), and let me know if you want me to look at your set, and update you with coin offers, when I get coins you may want in. See how it goes?!?

I like it when fellow registry set collectors contact me about a coin I could us in one of my sets.

One thing though, I do not open e-mails with attachments unless I am expecting them. So e-mail
me first and let me know you have some scans/pictures of coins I may be interested in.
