Who collects these or is familiar with them?? I'm wondering about the premium paid and availability of the different die combinations along with how many collectors really chase them. According to Breen-Swiatek there were four different pairings and a recent article in CW made mention of a fifth---variety 1-A---and two others which are considered uncollectible due their extreme rarity. The article is on page 56 of the May 3rd issue.

Any members of the Society for U.S. Commemorative Coins or just regular old commem guys who might be able to put some numbers up?? The CW article gives only two percentage estimates, 1-A @ 2% and 1-B @ 52.9% of the total mintage.

  • I saw 104 of them in one group (VF-MS) at the last FUN show. Very cool.

  • I was staying with a dealer who bought the whole hoard. I didn't know about the 1A thing or I might have looked closer at them. He graded them, sold about 92 of them in one deal and slabbed the rest.
