How many 1931-S cents does a person need?

I think a roll might be sufficient, but haven't gotten to that point yet.

To my way of thinking, just ONE nice 1931-S Lincoln cent will do. Mine is a nice one in a PCGS holder graded MS64RD. Steveimage

I thought about putting together a roll set of circ wheats at one time, with the exception of the SVDB and error coins. I guess if someone was doing that, then 50 would work.

Other than that, I'd think one per set that you're working on would work. I have a raw set and a nicer slabbed set. So I have two of them. The slabbed one just came in the mail today.

I have only one for my type set.
PCGS MS65RD. Used to be a cheap coin a few year ago. I think I picked this one up for less than $200.

Wasn't there some story or something, that 500,000 31-s cents were sent to Utah (over half the mintage) and some guy had the opportunity to buy them at face but decided to turn the offer down.

I saw the one you purchased today, I did like it. Congratulations. Since the 1931-S is really not that rare, go for it, collect a roll.

I got the 1866 PCGS MS-65BN from Rick Snow that I talked to you about, it is fantastic.

    Good seeing you again.

A roll should be at least fifty times as good as one.

Someone (can't remember the name) had a huge hoard of over 200,000 at one time. It was heavily hoarded right from the time of issue.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    1931-S .01¢?? Some kind of semi-key or something? I don't get it.

But then, I'm not much of a copper guy anyway.

Feb 2002, we auctioned an estate and it had a roll of 50 that graded AU-BU.

One 1931-S cent for my boyhood Lincoln set is good enough for me.

I have virtually no duplicates of anything in my collection. I want as many different items as possible and duplicates represent money that could be used to buy something new, different and exciting.

I seem to remember reading that a huge hoard of Unc. 1931-s cents, numbering in the hundreds of thousands,
once existed. Does anyone know what happened to it?
