I thought this was the U.S. Coin Forum ? ............
........ or is it now the "Bash eBay Sellers" Forum?
I for one am getting a little tired of the seemingly endless posts about this guy and that guy selling on eBay.
Shouldn't these type of posts be on the BST or Open Forum ?
(ok, with that said i'm sure i'll get more than my share of flames and juvinile responses about why i didn't post this message somewhere else................ flame on)

If Ebay did a better of job of policing their sellers, there would be no need to bash. If you can show me an instance where an honest Ebay seller has wrongly accused of crooked behavior or posting misinfomation, I'll be glad to defend him.
<< <i> I am so tired of seeing car pictures used as icons. >>
And your icon is a coin from what country ?
What else would you expect? One must cover the A$$eS of others. I thought that's what this forum was all about. Blatant bashing for the simple pleasure of someone needing something to do is one thing, doing it to forewarn people of scams is another.
Camaro's point is well defined in that this forum should be more about enjoying the hobby and asking questions regarding different dates/issues/ect. Showing off your type sets, and getting valuable information from veteran collectors and dealers about dipping, toning, and the such, as well as make some friends in the hobby.
On the other hand, the posters bashing the eBay sellers are looking out for the newbies in this hobby so that they don't get screwed. Getting a bad deal is a very good way to loose interest in a great hobby such as numismatics. Therefore, there are some of us here that devote time to hunting down bad sellers and informing the masses of their misdoings, ultimately keeping the soul of this hobby protected.
Everyone needs to face that even tightly knit groups such as numismatic enthusiasts will break into different niches, serving their roles in keeping this hobby alive and strong. I don't see any problem with camaros question or stance.

Its was drawn in the U.S. and it's not a car.
I didn't start a thread complaining about things that don't belong on the U.S. coin forum.
If I see a thread with a title I don't have interest in I don't open it.
If I open a thread and don't like the subject I move on.
If you think a thread is OT pm a mod and if they agree they will move it.
people to forwarn the not so knowledgeable.IMHO.

boy, that makes a lot of sense

No, you didn't. But you did respond with the typical juvinile response i expected someone would.

Agree completely. I do the same thing. BUT, I also have just as much right as anyone else to post my opinions.

I think we have enough brown nosers lurking to take care of that.

I think part of my intention, and i know i didn't state it very well (if at all), is that i thought this U.S. Coin Forum was for discussion and debate of Coins and Numismatic related issues ? When these truely informational posts come along once in a while they get quickly buried into history by the constant eBay bashing posts. Sure, they hang around the first page for a short time while the knowledgable people post their replys, but they vanish all too quickly in my opinion.
This thread link is what got me kinda worked up about this issue. The seller made a mistake. It was immediately posted here and the "pile on" began. I read it, simply sent a quick email to the seller, and got an answer. It was an honest mistake and he quickly rectified it.
Sometimes the "mob mentality" just gets to me. I needed to vent my "opinions" about it.
I absolutely AGREE.
<< <i> It was an honest mistake and he quickly rectified it. >>
Funny, I bet the seller never accidentally calls PCGS graded coins PCC. Of course, we'll never know because his feedback is private
Granted the item was pulled, but how many items are not and are bought by those who wished some one did "bash" the seller?
Edited to add that Russ pretty much knows all

<< <i>Even oldbies can get taken and I am glad such things are posted here. No one knows everything about evey coin struck and it's varieties or the different slabs out there. There are sellers on Ebay just waiting for those whom are not imformed. Yes, this is the U.S. coin forum and while many of us our here to learn and exchange knowledge on U.S. coins isn't exposing a potential bad seller an exchange of information as well???

An excellent example being last weeks thread where TDN won a bid on a trade dollar HE knew was fake. He bid on it in order to keeping anyone else getting burned on it for $10K, then he neged the seller.
He saw in the coin what 99% of buyers might not have regarding a way to tell a fake for that particular year. His post was educational and informative and he did a good deed.
Without what you refer to as "ebay bashing" in that thread, someone, maybe someone in this forum would be light about $10K.
TDN did someone a huge favor, and then did the rest of the forum a favor by showing the evidence of the fake.
I'll read threads like that all day long to know about sellers to avoid, and tell tale subtle signs in coins to avoid.

It has not been the real US coin forum for about the last two years, you really missed the best this board had to offer back right after it switched from the original OLD OLD style message boards.
I used to dislike it, but now it's kind of appealing.
On that note, I miss the likes of NumisEd.
I emailed the seller and told him the piece was bad and why. His response was that he had a very liberal return policy.
Excuse me? A liberal return policy is suffcient to cover for the fact that you are selling a fake item? By the time the buyer finds out he's been had, the auction will have ended moneths or years earlier, and the return period will have long since been over. This is the kind of garbage to goes on Ebay, and it seems that experienced collectors are the only ones who can do something about it. Ebay sure doesn't.
<< <i>Forum cycle,,,,,, next week it will something else. It is how we take the pulse of this hobby.

Look............. My intent in this thread was NOT to try to defend anyone. Just to inquire as to why it is necessary to puff up about what someone perceives as a fraud or scam, and then blast it all over this coin forum.
I would see it as much more beneficial for a simple alert and link to the possibility, and let the rest of the forum members click into it and decide for themselves. Name calling and a linch mob mentality doesn't do anyone any good and seems to inspire a lot of foolish posts.
IMHO

<< <i>I hope someone on this forum (or anywhere for that matter) wouldn't spend 10k on something they knew absolutely nothing about ?!?
IMHO
and there in lies the problem. While I don't know exactly how subtle the giveaway was in the trade dollar, from reading the post, I think you would have to be pretty smart to find it as it was obscure, yet TDN picked it out of a group of bad photos, and did everyone here a service by not only alerting to the scam, but showing how you can tell. If I remember correctly, it was the positioning of a berry on a branch below the talons - seemed damned obscure to me. I think you could know a good deal more than "absolutely nothing" about trade dollars and not know about that fine detail.

I get the feeling you don't have anything constructive to add so you just choose to pick and peck at bits and pieces ?

I wouldn't say my posts are "brilliant" by any means, but at least i try offer some form of constructive thought. My knowledge is limited in respect to coins, that's why i joined up here.
