How long before CU sells its message boards?

MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 24,790 ✭✭✭✭✭
Is this week's scheduled maintenance really a cover for something more sinister? Will this become the GMAI Forum by Monday morning? Inquiring minds want to know! image

Since the message boards are a non-incoming producing VERY LARGE expense, it is unlikely that they could find a buyer.

Russ, the entertainment value (alone) that we provide is priceless (the numismatic information - well, let's not discuss that).image

I can see Lucy owning these boards.

The only icon available would be a Franklin.

There would be two US coin forums. One for Frankies, One for all other coins. Talk of Kennedys, especially AH's would result in instant banning.

Participation on her 50's music board would be mandatory.

But the contests would be cool!

I'd buy it and ban all the slab haters.

This place would get pretty dull if there were only four guys left.

    Andy,
I thought the same thing, but have come to the conclusion that when the boards go down for "maintenance" they will never come back up. CU will tell us it has something to do with the moon landing conspiracy!

If so, I pick Krause as the buyer. Can anyone say "CoinNet?"

I had a coin trading network all set up and it was too early. And I didn't put the cash in that it needed as I was about to retire. UBB powered and e-a-s-y to use. But anyone who has tried to navigate CoinNet (I'm cancelling this month) knows what a useless, unintuitive user interface can REALLY be.

Someday.......somewhere....... A trading network that is EASY to use.

It's about time as coin dealers may ALMOST be ready to learn how to use a computer. almost.

Once the initial hardware/software expense is swallowed, it's very cheap to maintain a board. Finding moderators and controlling content, etc. is another matter. But overall it's not very expensive to maintain a board -- to the point that anyone could set one up if they wanted to.

Bandwidth ain't cheap, and the software that this forum runs on is a major bandwidth hog. It's relatively inexpensive to run a small board with efficient software a few hundred members, but this one is huge and costly.

Nothing we are doing for our internal systems will have any effect on this board.
