My Toning Chamber

In reading the AT/NT threads, I have to say that most of the coins shown looked to be artificially toned. All those wild and crazy colors just look too insane to be real.

I've previously posted about a lot of coins that I purchased without looking at them. That turned out to be a real good deal, as there were 4 UNC 1882 O/S in the display case, one even made PCGS MS63. It later sold for 10% under bid. image

Anyways, here's the display case.

image

The 25 coins sat in 25 slight indentations of a cardboard material covered with felt/velvet like cloth. This thing was supported in the back with a piece of plywood, and pressed against the surface of the glass.

Here's a closeup.

image

Over 30+ years, the plywood/cardboard/velvet oozed chemicals to slowly tone the coin on one side. On some coins, the toning look like a blob of blah. On some others, they look really nice. Here's some of the nicer one's, including some I've previously posted.

Perhaps I should put some more blast white Morgans back into the case and "harvest" them in another 30 years. image

By that time, toning would be out of fashion again.

Which only continues to prove that the difference between AT and NT is a function of time.

Will somebody Puhleeeze finally come up with the correct relativistic equation?

    David?

    Hello?

    P.S. beautiful Morgans!!!!!

    We ARE watching you.

The centerpiece in my toning chamber...

For extra points, identify the toilet. No cheating!

Edited to change "name the toilet" to "identify the toilet". I didn't want anyone naming the toilet "Russ", or anything like that...image

Can anyone show us what toned coins, from a Dansco album will look like?

I have the dansco State quater MS+proof vol. 1 album (full) and already I'm starting to see a ever so slight touch of toning.

    Thanks

Nope. It's not from a jail. Hint: it's in Scotland.

Edited to say: Poor DaveWang, I can't believe we did this to his thread! image
